ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Collaborate with other designers, engineers and disciplines in development of process and site design.
• Produce complex 3D designs and models of sites, facilities, pipelines, supports, foundations & other required
elements of energy infrastructure systems.
• Read, interpret & apply engineering terminology & symbols.
• Work with the D&D Coordinator with to develop design and drafting standards and procedures, and recommend
updates to those policies and procedures as needed.
• Strive for continuous improvement.
• Train, coach, or mentor Mechanical Designers as appropriate.
• Work with the Drafting & Design (D&D) Coordinator to research and coordinate external training as needed for
the Mechanical Design team.
• Work with the D&D Coordinator to ensure that each mechanical project is assigned to appropriate staff.
• Provide leadership to design and drafting staff on assigned projects.
• May supervise other Mechanical Designers or Drafters.
• Reviewing the work of other Mechanical Designers and/or Drafters for accuracy and adherence to company,
client and industry standards.
• Review work in progress or deliverables received from clients, outside consultants or vendors.
• Work with the D&D Coordinator to ensure that the company is current on the latest industry technology and
using the best tools available for each application. Make recommendations for updates or upgrades as applicable.
• Under direction from the Project Manager or Lead Engineers, may be requested to communicate and/or
coordinate with clients to resolve project questions such design requirements and standards.
• Work with the D&D Coordinator and Human Resources Coordinator to hire new design talent and assist with
performance reviews with existing employees.
• Provide input on new project proposals and estimates as requested.
• Review changes to design and scope, requests for extra work and any factors which may impact manpower
requirements within the Mechanical Design Team.
• Report escalation of any project or personnel issues to the Principals or Human Resources as necessary.
• Prepare documents or reports as requested by the Principals or Project Management team.
• Assist engineering and project management as needed with researching product specifications, contacting
vendors, and/or other support functions.
• Has the ability to perform all responsibilities identified in the Designer II job description.
• Travel to field project locations with other designers or engineers to make field sketches, take dimensions,
as-built assemblies, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Communicate effectively and provide regular status updates. Keep drawing lists and Teams tasks up to date.
• Strive continually to complete all assigned tasks on time & within allocated budget.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Duties are largely performed in an office.
• Office work may include prolonged seated tasks, extended keyboarding, and use of computer screen.
• May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
• Position requires travel (expected to be less than 20%); valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record
required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use stairs, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25
pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability
to adjust focus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrate the ability to perform all key qualifications of a Mechanical Designer II
• Expert skills using AutoCAD and Autodesk family of products for 3D modeling and drafting.
• Expert skills using CADWorx family of products (including Plant, P&ID, Spec Editor, and Isogen).
• Experience with other 3D software such as Revit is a plus.
• Expert knowledge in the field of energy infrastructure design.
• Expert knowledge in plant layout, piping, and support and hanger design
• Expert knowledge in pipe, valves and fittings and corresponding material and dimensional specifications.
• Ability to make decisions and find alternative solutions to problems.
• Ability to provide clear & concise direction to assigned staff.
• Ability to communicate within a dynamic design team, often with contacts external to home office location.
• Ability to solve complex problems and strive for innovative approaches to the design maturity process.
• Ability to establish & maintain standards, processes & systems within a design team.
• Capacity to conduct and participate in meetings with senior management.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
• Bachelor or Associates degree in a related field or applicable certificate of completion from an accredited
designer/drafter curriculum.
• Five or more years of experience developing complex 2D and 3D designs, design processes and inspiring
innovative approaches.
