Senior MES Engineer
Location: Zeeland, Michigan - 100% On-Site
Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior MES Engineer to support and advance technology used directly within manufacturing and warehouse operations. This is a hands-on role for an experienced engineer who understands both software/platform development and the realities of deploying and supporting technology on the plant floor.
The Senior MES Engineer will work across the full solution lifecycle-from gathering plant requirements and designing solutions through implementation, deployment, and production support. The environment includes MOM/MES, SCADA, manufacturing data, warehouse systems, and edge applications, with an emphasis on building reliable, reusable capabilities that operate effectively in industrial environments.
This position will work closely with plant engineering, operations, IT, and other technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Own manufacturing technology solutions through requirements gathering, technical design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Partner with plant engineers, operations teams, IT resources, and technical stakeholders to translate manufacturing requirements into practical technology solutions.
- Develop and support applications and services that integrate with MOM/MES and other shop-floor systems, including production, quality, and traceability solutions.
- Build APIs, integrations, and data pipelines supporting real-time and near-real-time manufacturing information.
- Develop and maintain applications deployed within plant or edge environments and integrate them with systems such as MES, SCADA, historians, equipment data sources, WMS, and WES.
- Configure and support MOM/MES functionality based on manufacturing and operational requirements.
- Develop software using technologies such as Python, Java, Node.js, or .NET.
- Package applications using Docker and support Kubernetes deployments in on-premise or edge environments.
- Participate directly in plant implementations, validation, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, technical documentation, and solution design.
- Improve the reliability, scalability, maintainability, and reuse of manufacturing platform capabilities.
- Troubleshoot issues with an understanding of both the underlying technology and the physical manufacturing processes it supports.
- Respond to operational priorities and provide hands-on support when plant or production requirements demand it.
Qualifications
- Approximately 8-10+ years of relevant software engineering, manufacturing IT, MES, or industrial technology experience, including meaningful hands-on experience supporting technology within manufacturing facilities.
- Practical experience with manufacturing and/or warehouse platforms such as MOM, MES, SCADA, WMS, or WES, with an understanding of how these systems interact with plant-floor processes and equipment.
- Strong software development skills in at least one relevant language such as Python, Java, Node.js, or .NET, along with experience developing or consuming REST APIs and data services.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and working knowledge of Kubernetes, combined with experience taking technical solutions from requirements and design through implementation and production support.
- Ability and willingness to work 100% on-site in Holland, Michigan, collaborating directly with plant personnel and responding flexibly to manufacturing and operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, particularly when paired with strong software and manufacturing systems experience.
- Experience with edge/on-premise deployments, historians, industrial IoT, MQTT or other event-driven architectures, CI/CD, or DevOps practices.
