This position requires someone who can communicate effectively with vendors, engineers, production leaders, and company leadership. You should be comfortable evaluating suppliers, purchasing a variety of metals and fabricated components, and identifying potential quality, cost, or delivery concerns before they disrupt production.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage supplier relationships, pricing, lead times, availability, and delivery performance
Review material requirements and coordinate purchasing activity with production schedules
Negotiate pricing and commercial terms while maintaining quality and supplier reliability
Evaluate vendors based on technical capabilities, responsiveness, capacity, and performance
Collaborate with machining, welding, fabrication, engineering, and operations teams
Understand material specifications and how different metals will be processed on the manufacturing floor
Monitor market conditions and identify opportunities to improve cost, delivery, and supply continuity
Address shortages, late deliveries, quality concerns, and other supply-chain issues
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and order documentation
Develop backup supply options for critical materials and services
Support an orderly transition of responsibilities from the current purchasing professional
Qualifications:
Significant experience purchasing metals within a manufacturing environment
Prior hands-on or closely related experience in machining, welding, metal fabrication, or metalworking
Strong understanding of metal grades, specifications, manufacturing processes, and supplier capabilities
Demonstrated success negotiating with metal suppliers, fabricators, machine shops, or related vendors
Ability to assess whether a supplier can meet technical, quality, and delivery requirements
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and make sound purchasing decisions
Experience supporting engineered-to-order or custom manufacturing is highly preferred
