Role Overview
The Sr Microsoft Cloud Engineer position serves as a senior technical subject matter expert responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, advancement, and ongoing support of Microsoft 365 cloud services across the Agency. The role spans the broader Microsoft ecosystem including Microsoft Purview, Power Platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, Entra ID, Defender, and related cloud technologies and carries a heightened and mission-critical responsibility for advanced SharePoint Online engineering and solution development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level engineering expertise for everyday system administration, troubleshooting, new feature evaluation and rollout, and ongoing platform growth and enhancements related to Microsoft 365 cloud services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Entra ID, Defender, Purview, and Power Platform.
  • Perform design, configuration, optimization, and lifecycle administration of Microsoft 365 services following industry standards, Microsoft best practices, and Agency security requirements.
  • Develop Microsoft 365 architectural standards, governance models, operational processes, and technical documentation.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and escalation support for complex Microsoft 365 platform issues.
  • Develop advanced PowerShell scripts and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
  • Design, develop, and implement modern SharePoint solutions including advanced lists, pages, workflows, metadata structures, integrations, and business-focused collaboration experiences.
  • Develop integrations between SharePoint Online and other Microsoft 365 services, Power Platform solutions, and approved third-party applications.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise for the design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft Purview information protection and governance capabilities.
  • Design, configure, and enhance Data Loss Prevention controls across Microsoft 365 workloads.
  • Design, develop, and support solutions utilizing Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Support the adoption and governance of emerging Microsoft AI capabilities, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, agents, connectors, and related technologies.

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced experience administering and engineering Microsoft 365 enterprise environments.
  • Advanced SharePoint Online experience, including modern site development, lists, metadata, integrations, automation, governance, and solution design.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate and Power Apps solution development.
  • Experience implementing Microsoft Purview information governance and protection capabilities, including sensitivity labels, retention policies, classification strategies, and DLP.
  • Strong knowledge of Entra ID, authentication technologies, Conditional Access, MFA, and Microsoft cloud security practices.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research, evaluate, design, and implement complex technical solutions.
  • Ability to provide advanced technical guidance, recommendations, and knowledge sharing with other IT professionals.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Developed problem solving skills and the ability to focus attention on details.
  • Demonstrated basic analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and apply disparate pieces of information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a history of thinking strategically and investigating/analyzing information independently.
