Apache Junction Unified School District is seeking a highly qualified Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) to lead our distinguished NJROTC program at Apache Junction High School. This role is ideal for a retired Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Officer who is passionate about developing leadership, citizenship, discipline, and academic excellence in young people. As the SNSI, you will guide a multi-year Naval Science curriculum, mentor cadets, manage program operations, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. You will serve as both an instructional leader and a role modelshaping a program that reflects honor, service, and a Kids First mindset. What You'll Lead and Support Teach the prescribed 3- or 4-year Naval Science curriculum Instruct cadets in military drill, leadership, and citizenship Counsel and mentor students, including support for higher education and career pathways Develop, update, and maintain lesson plans aligned to NJROTC requirements Requisition, manage, and maintain all government-furnished equipment (uniforms, training aids, books, drill rifles, air rifles, and organizational equipment) Coordinate uniform cleaning, tailoring, and surveying of worn or outdated items Perform preventive maintenance on training aids and instructional devices Maintain accurate inventory control, including annual wall-to-wall inventory Ensure proper physical security of all government-furnished materials Plan and supervise extracurricular NJROTC activities, including: Color/Honor Guard ceremonies Drill and rifle team competitions Field trips, leadership training, and ship cruises Prepare required reports related to program administration, logistics, and compliance Stay current on Navy policies, program updates, and instructional expectations Assess unit progress to ensure NJROTC program objectives are met Attend Navy-sponsored training and professional development Build strong relationships with school counselors, faculty, and community partners Conduct annual presentations at feeder schools to recruit new cadets Manage financial accounts for the NJROTC operating budget Prepare financial vouchers for Navy reimbursement of program-related expenditures Engage civic organizations to strengthen community support for the NJROTC program Collaborate with school and district leadership to support a positive, student-centered culture What You Bring Federal Instructor Certification (required) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Retired Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Officer, paygrade CWO-2 through O-6 Arizona Teaching Certificate (may be obtained after hiring) Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to mentor, motivate, and inspire high school students Commitment to maintaining program excellence, compliance, and safety Professionalism, integrity, and a service-oriented mindset Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff, families, and community partners Compensation & Benefits Salary: Navy Minimum Instructor Pay (NMI), determined in accordance with Navy guidelines Experience Credit: Based on verified military service and NJROTC requirements Benefits Package Includes: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Life Insurance Short-Term Disability (STD) Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) mandatory participation 403(b) retirement savings options Employee Assistance Program (EAP) University partnerships offering discounted continuing education and advanced degrees * Paid leave benefits and wellness supports (available after one year of service) Physical & Work Environment Expectations This role requires regular movement, communication, and supervision of cadets.
