Job Title: Network Operations / Infrastructure Engineer – NOC
Location: Columbia, SC
Team: Network Operations Center (NOC)
Work Arrangement: Partial Onsite
Work Schedule:Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Required

Job Summary: The Network Operations Center (NOC) is responsible for the daily operation and support of a highly available enterprise network environment that supports the entire Client organization. The team ensures the security, reliability, and performance of critical network services through proactive monitoring, incident response, operational support, and continuous improvement initiatives. This team plays a vital role in maintaining business continuity and partnering with other IT organizations to ensure infrastructure and application availability.
The Network Operations / Infrastructure professional will administer infrastructure including hardware, software, and various configurations. Provides administration and maintenance of user devices and communications links to assure operational availability. Deploys and administers routing protocols and network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers). Administers and tests networking hardware and software. Performs remedial maintenance of network devices including the restoration of hardware and software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administers infrastructure including hardware, software, and various configurations.
  • Provides administration and maintenance of user devices and communications links to assure operational availability.
  • Deploys and administers routing protocols and network devices including switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Administers and tests networking hardware and software.
  • Performs remedial maintenance of network devices including restoration of hardware and software.
  • Administers use, capacity and performance of network systems across multiple platforms.
  • Works with end users and vendors to resolve network hardware/software issues.
  • Upgrades and configures network devices from multiple vendors.
  • Maintains effective relationships with external suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of support.
  • Schedules, plans, and performs system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
  • Troubleshoots network performance issues and adjusts network configurations as needed.
  • Generates network utilization, trending, and error reports as requested.
  • Observes and controls the status and performance of network/system facilities.
  • Maintains change control of network devices and controls access to and authorization levels for network devices.
  • Anticipates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure system security.
  • Maintains security, backup, and disaster recovery processes and systems.
  • Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations as needed.
  • Addresses network vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames and ensures network compliance with audit requirements.
  • Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation.
  • Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
  • Updates knowledge and skills to keep up with advancements in network administration technology.

Required Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network operations, network administration, or infrastructure support environments
  • Experience supporting enterprise network technologies in a 24x7 operational environment
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex network incidents
  • Experience performing network monitoring, operational maintenance, and infrastructure support activities

Preferred Experience
  • 8+ years of experience working in enterprise infrastructure and network environments
  • Experience with highly available, large-scale network environments
  • Experience leading operational initiatives, major incident response, and infrastructure improvements
  • Experience creating and maintaining operational documentation and procedures

NOC Operational Responsibilities
  • Performing daily operational health checks and environment validation
  • Monitoring network performance, availability, and capacity
  • Responding to and resolving network incidents and outages
  • Performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Managing break-fix activities and service requests
  • Executing operational changes in accordance with established change management processes
  • Supporting compliance remediation efforts
  • Managing network backup and recovery processes
  • Developing and maintaining operational documentation and procedures
  • Collaborating with engineering, security, infrastructure, and application support teams to ensure service availability and operational excellence

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong technical knowledge of networking, communications, and related hardware and software
  • Knowledge of network technologies and platforms
  • Strong technical skills including problem analysis of network systems
  • Ability to gather information to troubleshoot various network problems
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of common network administration, monitoring, and security utilities
  • Strong understanding of relevant network hardware and software
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite from a systems support/break-fix perspective

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job-related degree OR
  • 4 years of job-related work experience OR
  • 2 years of job-related experience plus an associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job-related degree

Preferred: Bachelor's degree

Certifications: Preferred vendor certifications include: CCNA, CCNP & CCVP

Work Environment: Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.
