We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer who will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the FDIC's enterprise network infrastructure to ensure operational continuity and reliable performance of its nationwide operations. This role requires a highly skilled professional to manage, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance a complex network environment comprising Cisco and Juniper technologies while ensuring security and compliance standards are met. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and carriers, as well as contributing to process improvements, documentation, and incident resolution.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot Cisco and Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls in both production and backup data center environments.
  • Implement and maintain access control lists (ACLs) and security policies to enforce network segmentation and support compliance requirements.
  • Perform IOS and Junos versions upgrades, ensuring post-change validation and connectivity testing are completed without impacting operations.
  • Manage DNS records (A, MX, CNAME) and DHCP reservations through Infoblox IPAM solutions.
  • Provide support for and troubleshoot Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) integrations related to authentication and access control mechanisms.
  • Monitor network performance and resolve incidents using tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, and Netcool. Respond proactively to system alerts and performance issues to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring after-hours and weekend support for mission-critical enterprise network infrastructure as needed.
  • Lead coordination efforts with telecom carriers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to resolve outages and major incidents efficiently.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical infrastructure events, ensuring findings are documented and lessons learned are applied.
  • Support data center operations, including activities such as racking, cabling, hardware replacement, and managing UPS systems and cooling infrastructure.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Network Operations Center (NOC) documentation to standardize and streamline operations.
  • Implement network changes in alignment with ITIL-based change management processes, ensuring changes are well-documented, tested, and executed.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience
  • Proven hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper network technologies, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Advanced proficiency in network protocols, including ACLs and DHCP/DNS management.
  • Experience with Infoblox IPAM for DNS and DHCP administration.
  • Familiarity with Cisco ISE for authentication and access control.
  • Expertise in monitoring and troubleshooting network performance with tools like SolarWinds, Splunk, and Netcool.
  • Ability to interface with carriers/vendors and foster collaboration during incident resolution processes.
  • Strong understanding of data center best practices and physical infrastructure, including power and cooling systems.
  • Experience in creating detailed SOPs and operational documentation.
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and experience executing ITIL-based change management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance.

Preferred:
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA/JNCIS.
  • Familiarity with or experience in FDIC-specific systems or equivalent experience in government or financial institutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to provide detailed root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and network segmentation strategies.
  • Prior experience managing and responding to major network incidents.
