Job Description:

The Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, design, implementation, and support of enterprise network projects. This role determines requirements, oversees project planning, executes implementations, and provides high-level operational support to ensure optimal performance of both new and existing network hardware and software systems.

The engineer will lead troubleshooting efforts for network-related incidents, proactively monitor system health, and ensure compliance with hospital security policies, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards. In addition, this role develops and maintains accurate network documentation and leads cross-functional infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish network goals and objectives aligned with SFHS information systems and overall project planning.
  • Provide operational technical support to internal teams and external clients to resolve issues and meet service-level expectations.
  • Deliver technical planning for users, information services, and network services teams.
  • Participate in both business-hours and after-hours on-call rotations.
  • Perform onsite support across hospital campuses and remote clinic locations.
  • Plan, design, configure, and implement network systems with minimal disruption to overall availability and performance.
  • Ensure all functional, operational, and administrative requirements for networks meet organizational standards.
  • Maintain network software at optimal vendor-recommended maintenance levels.
  • Develop and maintain standards and documentation for all networking hardware, software architecture, and configurations.
  • Make independent decisions involving non-routine issues under general supervision.
  • Coordinate activities and lead others performing similar work (non-supervisory).
  • Work collaboratively with internal/external customers, healthcare professionals, stakeholders, and director-level personnel.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows workstation support, TCP/IP transport, routing protocols, and physical network design.
  • In-depth understanding of enterprise technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, Windows Server, Linux, and Unix.
  • Familiarity with modern data center architectures including EVPN, VXLAN, and spine-leaf designs.
  • Expertise in enterprise security: firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, NAC, and zero-trust architecture.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Wireshark, and System Center.
  • Knowledge of automation tools (Python, Ansible) for provisioning and configuration management.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and collaborate with technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience with capacity planning, HA/DR, and business continuity strategies.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across multi-vendor enterprise environments.
  • Ability to lead large-scale infrastructure projects while balancing performance, cost, and security considerations.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience supporting large network infrastructures (>1000 devices).
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications & Licensure:
  • Valid driver's license, MVR, and proof of vehicle insurance (as off-campus support is required).
Preferred Certifications:
  • Aruba Certified Associate - Mobility (ACA)
  • Aruba Certified Professional - Mobility (ACP)
  • Juniper JNCIA or JNCIS
  • Fortinet Certified Fundamentals (FCF) or Fortinet Certified Associate (FCA)
