Your Role

Akkodis is seeking a Senior Open Telemetry (OTel) Instrumentation Engineer for a Contract with a client in Woodland Hills, CA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-wide observability solutions by instrumenting applications, cloud platforms, and network infrastructure using OpenTelemetry standards.

Rate Range: $45/hour to $49/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Senior Open Telemetry (OTel) Instrumentation Engineer Job Responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain OpenTelemetry (OTel) instrumentation across SaaS applications, cloud platforms, and distributed systems to enable end-to-end observability.

  • Develop and manage OpenTelemetry Collector pipelines, including data ingestion, processing, routing, sampling strategies, and telemetry governance across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.

  • Implement distributed tracing, metrics, logging, and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) solutions for microservices, serverless applications, databases, and asynchronous workloads.

  • Define and enforce observability standards, semantic conventions, telemetry schemas, SLIs, and SLOs to support operational excellence and platform reliability.

  • Collaborate with engineering, cloud, network operations, and AIOps teams to correlate application, infrastructure, and network telemetry for proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.

  • Build reusable instrumentation libraries, optimize telemetry pipelines, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and drive enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field. Advanced certifications in Observability, Cloud Platforms, or Monitoring technologies are preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in Observability Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Distributed Systems Monitoring.

  • Deep expertise in OpenTelemetry (SDKs, APIs, Collector, OTLP), distributed tracing, metrics, logging, Application Performance Monitoring (APM), and instrumentation across Java, Python, Go, Node.js, and cloud-native environments.

  • Proven experience managing OpenTelemetry Collector pipelines, cloud observability across AWS/Azure/GCP, telemetry governance, SLI/SLO implementation, network telemetry integration, and large-scale monitoring solutions supporting enterprise SaaS and distributed applications.

Pay Details: $45.00 to $49.00 per hour
