Amazon has built one of the most sophisticated supply chains in the world. From the introduction of Amazon Prime to the deployment of advanced automation across our fulfillment network, Amazon continuously raises the bar for operational excellence and customer experience.
The Sub Same Day (SSD) Field Engineering team is seeking an innovative and solutions-oriented Senior Field Operations Engineer to support the deployment, optimization, and reliability of next-generation fulfillment technologies across the SSD network. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and operations, working directly in the field to ensure complex automation systems are designed, implemented, and executed to deliver safe, stable, and scalable operations.
As a Senior Field Operations Engineer, you will lead engineering initiatives supporting site launches, automation retrofits, and operational performance improvements across multiple fulfillment sites. You will partner with cross-functional teams including Operations, RME, Ops Engineering, and external vendors to diagnose complex system challenges, implement scalable solutions, and ensure successful delivery of automation programs in live operational environments.
This role requires strong technical depth in material handling systems, automation integration, and operational engineering, combined with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive results in highly ambiguous and fast-paced environments. Successful candidates are self-starters who thrive in the field, take ownership of complex problems, and bring a data-driven approach to improving system performance, safety, and reliability.
You will participate across the full lifecycle of engineering programs, including system implementation, validation, performance testing, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of deployed technologies. The role requires high collaboration, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to translate engineering insights into operational improvements at scale.
Amazons culture encourages innovation and expects engineers to take a high level of ownership in solving complex problems that directly impact our customers and operations.
Locations: Open to candidates in multiple U.S. locations.
Come help us build the future of SSD fulfillment.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter
