OverviewWSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Senior P&C Field Services Technician for project locations in the states of Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.ResponsibilitiesDelivers advanced technical support across environmental, construction, and infrastructure-related field activities by performing complex assignments and leading day-to-day technical activities on site within established project parametersApplies deep knowledge of field procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to lead inspections, data collection, sampling, and technical troubleshootingServes as a field resource for resolving non-routine challenges, ensuring quality control, and maintaining operational continuityProvides technical direction to junior staff, supports project execution, and contributes to risk mitigation and compliance efforts across diverse and active field environmentsSupports the POWER Engineers integration by collaborating with teams on power delivery, power generation, and project management initiativesYour ImpactPerform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substationsPerform on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested include SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, among othersFollow safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and job hazard assessmentsUse field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activitiesPerform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directedSupport the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projectsApply advanced technical knowledge of field instrumentation and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervisionLead tailgate safety meetings, daily job hazard analyses, and support regulatory compliance walkthroughsProvide input to field schedules, equipment needs, and task prioritization to support project managersCoordinate with subcontractors on site preparation, testing logistics, and equipment deploymentMaintain and track calibration and maintenance logs for field equipment and vehiclesMonitor and promote compliance with site-specific health, safety, and environmental protocolsCommunicate field status, risks, and updates to project leadership and technical staffSupport logistics for multi-day assignments, including material planning and crew deploymentCollaborate with technical specialists to integrate findings into broader reporting and analysisAdapt procedures to meet site-specific requirements while maintaining compliance with regulationsIdentify and recommend opportunities for process improvement in field data quality, safety, or schedulingExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and proceduresPerform additional responsibilities as required by business needsWho You AreRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 9 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testingDemonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemesProven technical skills related to protective relays including relay calibration using test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of sensing CT/PT circuits, uploading settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relaysProven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standardsKnowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakersStrong understanding of technical software for testing purposes and data review: ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator QuicksetDemonstrable ability to identify and respond to field challenges and equipment malfunctionsProficient in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reportsPhysical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditionsSignificant experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineersDemonstrated commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory complianceStrong verbal and written communication skills for field team collaborationCapability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environmentsAbility to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and maintain accountability in the fieldCommitment to continued learning and development in technical field servicesUnderstanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environmentsReliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently or with a teamProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policiesWillingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistanceSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focusValid driver's license and clean driving recordMust be willing to travel (up to 80%)Preferred QualificationsBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar disciplineExperience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relaysExperience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargersCurrent OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certificationWSP BenefitsWSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career.
