SGI Global is seeking Senior Paralegals to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Texas, in San Antonio, Texas. The Senior Paralegals will provide professional litigation support services in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Western Texas Border Fence actions and related federal litigation matters. This position requires experienced legal professionals capable of supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) with legal research, title and records review, witness interview support, case management, trial preparation, courtroom support, and litigation document preparation.

The Senior Paralegals will work in a fast-paced legal environment supporting complex federal civil litigation and land acquisition matters, while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to Department of Justice policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Perform legal research, records research, assisting conducting witness interviews, title reviews, preparation of reports as described below, research and response to landowner complaints, courtroom assistance/trial preparation, monthly reports as described below for assigned cases.
  • Assist AUSAs conducting witness interviews and preparing a record of the interviews for use at deposition. Contractor employees shall identify themselves as a contractor during phone and face-to-face interviews.
  • Review title commitments for accuracy and create deed history summaries.
  • Prepare Declarations of Taking Reports, Amended Declarations of Taking (ADT) Reports, Complaints, Notices Joint Motions to Close, and Motions to Suppress, summarize depositions and other transcripts, maintain case files, and control exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial for assigned cases.
  • Document landowner complaints and responses in a monthly report.
  • Support and assist attorneys in the courtroom by preparing exhibit cross-references and screening documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Identify types of record keeping systems and types of records maintained which would be relevant. Gather, sort, and interpret data from various record systems including computer information systems.
  • Develop statistics and tabulations, such as standard deviations, regression analyses, and weighting, to provide leads and supportive data for case litigation. Prepare charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate results. Analyzes data, develops recommendations and justifications for the attorney(s) who will take the matter to court.
  • Design and develop systems and procedures for tracking, controlling, and managing case files, exhibits, and other case-specific materials.

Qualifications:

  • Two (2)-Year degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, Business/Business Administration/Finance, English/Journalism, or other related field; or high school diploma/equivalent and Paralegal Certificate.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in providing legal support, such as independently drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain adjudication for the requisite background investigation
  • Experience and expertise in performing the requisite services above

Preferred:

  • Legal experience in real estate, mineral interests, and oil and gas matters.
