Position Summary
The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department and Company by ensuring the integrity of financial information and results through compliance with Company policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Responsibilities include the ownership of domestic and international payroll and benefits, including expenses, accruals, and prepaid accounts and the production of financial and regulatory reports based on those records. Other responsibilities include performing accounting and financial analysis, preparing account reconciliations and assisting in the preparation of accounting statements and reports. This role will partner closely with Human Resources and other cross-functional teams to support month-end close and ongoing financial operations.
Job Responsibilities
Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to payroll and benefits expenses, accruals, and prepaid accounts
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Perform domestic and international payroll accounting, including verification of expense classifications and accrual estimates
Maintain bonus schedules, tax receivables and liabilities, and benefits liability balances
Coordinate with business partners to ensure completeness and accuracy of accruals
Analyze expense trends and variances and provide explanations to management
Organize and evaluate prepaid expenses and balances, ensuring proper amortization and accurate period recognition, according to policy
Collaborate cross-functionally to support business initiatives and financial transparency
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance controls
Assist with system implementations or upgrades related to accounting processes
Prepare and review financial reports for accuracy; complete any additional review or investigation required
Research and respond to financial inquiries from management
Participate in preparation of complex schedules and documentation for internal and external audits, both domestic and international
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Assist as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as requested
Accept other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
5+ years of experience working in accounting preferably in a Big 4 or large company, with 3+ years preferred specifically in payroll accounting
Strong experience with month-end close
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook
Demonstrated ability to learn new accounting software
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
CPA preferred
