Role Summary
The Sr Payroll Tax Analyst will serve as the subject matter expert for payroll tax compliance, reporting, and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate payroll tax processing, minimizing compliance risk, and supporting payroll operations through process improvements, system validation, and tax expertise.
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, experience working in large corporate environments, and a proven ability to resolve complex payroll tax issues. This individual will collaborate closely with payroll, finance, HR, auditors, and external agencies to maintain compliance and optimize payroll tax processes.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and approve payroll tax transactions, filings, amendments, and jurisdiction setups across federal, state, and local agencies
Ensure timely and accurate periodic, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reporting requirements
Validate W2 reporting and process corrections to maintain compliance and accuracy
Research and resolve payroll tax agency notices, discrepancies, and compliance issues
Monitor changes in payroll tax legislation and assess organizational impact
Support payroll system updates, tax table maintenance, testing activities, and interface validations
Oversee audit controls, workers compensation audits, and payroll tax compliance activities
Validate payroll related programs including reimbursements, incentives, taxable benefits, pay card programs, and union dues processing
Key Requirements
3 or more years of payroll tax experience in a complex corporate environment
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong expertise in payroll tax laws across federal, state, local, multi state, and multi entity environments
Experience with payroll tax reporting and compliance through ADP SmartCompliance
Hands on experience with ADP tax filing processes and payroll tax reconciliations
Functional experience with Oracle Payroll preferred
Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting large scale payroll operations with high employee volume
Knowledge of PeopleSoft payroll environments
Experience managing payroll tax audits and agency correspondence
Understanding of payroll interfaces, system testing, and process improvement initiatives
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
