GENERAL FUNCTION: Makes various calculations such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses, frequently using charts and tables.
- Reviews and checks engineering deliverables produced by subordinates.
- Creates innovative and cost effective solutions in the development of vessels.
- Responsible for the development of equipment purchase specifications.
- Reviews purchase specifications from other disciplines for compliance and integration with overall vessel.
- Ensures that engineering deliverables conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Consults with vendors on project related activities.
- Actively interfaces with other engineering disciplines and production department.
- Must follow all Company policies and procedures, including those relative to employee safety, environmental policy, and the principles of our quality system.
- Other duties assigned or requested by Management.
- Works overtime as required.
- Reports to work daily and on time.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of USCG, ABS, SOLAS and government shipbuilding standards.
- Working knowledge of marine systems and shipbuilding industry.
- Team-oriented, can work well with others.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Able to train and supervise junior AutoCAD operators.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: 8 years of experience in marine design preferred. (AutoCAD and ShipConstructor preferred).
