Senior Platform Engineer
Bethesda, MD | Remote | 5-month Contract
Job Summary:
Seeking for a Senior Platform Engineer with strong software engineering skills, genuine database expertise, and a platform engineering orientation. You will be responsible for designing, automating, and operating production-scale database platforms that are secure, resilient, and easy for application teams to use. You will work closely with Site Reliability Engineering, Networking, Security, and Application Engineering teams to deliver database capabilities through our Internal Developer Platform.
Core Work Activities:
- Design and build database infrastructure provisioning modules and automation pipelines.
- Implement CI/CD automation for standardized and safe database platform changes.
- Enable self-service database capabilities for application teams.
- Develop platform tooling for database health, security, and compliance visibility.
- Support strategic database migrations and develop migration patterns and standards.
- Create guidance artifacts and documentation for supported database platforms.
- Collaborate on database architecture, performance, and operational readiness.
- Ensure database platforms align with security and compliance standards.
- Integrate database services with IAM controls, networking, and configuration management.
- Participate in technical discussions, shared documentation, and engineering standards.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- 7 years of combined software and infrastructure engineering experience, with hands-on experience in distributed or document-oriented database technology.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (especially Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming or scripting language (Python, Go, or equivalent).
Preferred:
- Experience with Couchbase Server or Couchbase Capella, and/or AWS managed database services.
- Experience with event-driven systems, workflow orchestration, and compliance automation tools.
- Involvement in large-scale database migrations or backend software development experience.
