Contract: W2 only, 12 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI
Pay: $70–80/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
Overview
The Senior Platform Engineer is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, operational support, and platform stability across critical cruise line technology systems. This role serves as a technical escalation point between vendors, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders, supporting operational applications used within cruise operations, fleet maintenance, logistics, crew services, medical operations, and asset management environments. The position emphasizes production support, incident management, operational ownership, vendor coordination, and platform reliability across a portfolio of business-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational and technical support for vendor-based software platforms supporting cruise operations and business-critical functions.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for vendors, business stakeholders, and infrastructure partners.
- Triage and troubleshoot production incidents, identify root causes, coordinate resolution efforts, and drive issues through completion.
- Maintain platform availability, operational stability, and overall system reliability.
- Support Windows Server-based application environments in partnership with infrastructure teams.
- Write and troubleshoot SQL queries against Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases to support operational and business needs.
- Coordinate with networking, server, security, and third-party vendor teams during incident response and operational troubleshooting.
- Support application, infrastructure, and service-layer testing activities prior to upgrades, releases, and platform changes.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes following established operational procedures.
- Assist with project initiatives, infrastructure updates, security remediation efforts, and operational roadmap execution.
- Create and maintain system documentation, support procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, platform reliability, and support processes through tooling and automation.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting critical operational platforms.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of advanced troubleshooting and operational support experience in enterprise production environments.
- Strong experience supporting production applications and operational platforms.
- Experience working with vendor-supported enterprise systems and coordinating with external software vendors.
- Experience supporting one or more of the following enterprise applications: AMOS, CrunchTime, MXP (MarineXchange), or SeaCare.
- Strong SQL/database experience, including writing, troubleshooting, and analyzing queries.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server environments.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including connectivity troubleshooting, firewall concepts, and data flow analysis.
- Experience supporting incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to rapidly learn and support niche operational and vendor-hosted applications.
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting cruise, maritime, logistics, maintenance management, healthcare, or other operationally complex environments.
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with AWS EC2 environments.
- Experience with ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms.
- Exposure to CI/CD deployment processes and tooling.
- Experience with scripting, automation, or operational tooling using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
