Calling all Senior Plumbing Designers, we have an open postion in Minneapolis, MN!
In this position you will be responsible for the design, coordination, and production of plumbing systems for commercial, healthcare, life science, or higher education facilities. This position leads plumbing design efforts from conceptual planning through construction administration, ensuring technical excellence, code compliance, and coordination with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
Responsibilities- Lead the design and layout (including distribution and central system design, selection and specifications) of plumbing systems including:
- Domestic cold and hot water systems
- Sanitary waste and vent systems
- Storm drainage systems
- Natural gas systems
- Specialty water systems including RO and DI systems
- Specialty waste systems including PH waste treatment systems
- Medical gas and medical vacuum systems
- Laboratory and process gas distribution systems
- Compressed dry air (CDA) systems
- Plumbing systems for laboratories, healthcare, life sciences and industrial facilities
- Develop plumbing system concepts, design criteria, and engineering calculations.
- Prepare plumbing plans, schedules, riser diagrams, details, and specifications.
- Perform plumbing load calculations, fixture unit calculations, pipe sizing, pressure loss analyses, and equipment selections.
- Coordinate plumbing designs with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, civil, and specialty disciplines.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination meetings.
- Conduct field investigations and verify existing building conditions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building, plumbing, energy, accessibility, and fire protection codes.
- Utilize BIM software, including Revit, to develop and coordinate project models.
- Perform quality control( QC) reviews of project documents for completeness, constructability, and code compliance.
- Perform construction administration activities including:
- Review shop drawings and product submittals.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Perform site observations and punch list reviews
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and engineering staff.
Required Qualifications- 10+ years of plumbing design experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Extensive knowledge of plumbing systems with expertise in commercial, healthcare, or life science plumbing systems.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- Strong understanding of:
- International Plumbing Code (IPC)
- Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), where applicable
- Building and energy codes
- Experience performing plumbing calculations, selecting and specifying equipment, and preparing construction documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of and lead the design for plumbing systems.
- Organizational and time-management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications- Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) through ASPE.
- Experience with healthcare, laboratory, industrial, and/or life science facilities.
- Familiarity with medical gas system design and applicable healthcare codes.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
