About Ampaire

Ampaire is revolutionizing air travel with hybrid-electric propulsion, pioneering the fastest and most practical path to sustainable aviation. Founded in 2016 and headquartered at the Long Beach Airport, Ampaire has led the industry in real-world hybrid-electric flight innovation since the first flight of its Electric EEL testbed in 2019.

Ampaire's approach is to repower existing aircraft rather than wait for new infrastructure or fuels — slashing fuel consumption by 50-70% and enabling airlines to reduce costs and emissions now. Flights have already spanned Hawaii, Scotland, Canada, Alaska, and beyond. In 2022, Ampaire introduced the world's largest hybrid-electric aircraft, the Eco Caravan, which is advancing through certification and commercialization.

Backed by industry-leading partners and a $5B+ sales pipeline, Ampaire is at an inflection point. This is a once-in-a-century moment for aviation, and the certification work happening now will determine how fast the industry transforms.

The Opportunity

Ampaire is looking for a Senior or Principal Engineer to own systems engineering, requirements management, and direct engagement with the FAA across Part 23 and Part 33 certification programs. The role reports to the CTO and is the primary technical interface with the FAA — managing document submissions, negotiating requirements and means of compliance, and driving verification and validation through the certification process.

This is a high-stakes, high-ownership role at a company working with novel technology in a tightly regulated environment. If you have deep Part 23 certification expertise and want to shape the certification path for hybrid-electric propulsion, this is that role.

What You'll Do

  • •      Lead technical responses to the FAA for Part 23 and Part 33 certification projects, including documentation for requirements, means of compliance, and verification/validation reports
  • •      Review FAA feedback and provide responses; support negotiation of requirements, means of compliance, and interpretation of V&V reports
  • •      Manage certification requirements and flow down; lead interaction with the engineering team to negotiate and flow down certification requirements
  • •      Support engineering design and V&V efforts as appropriate
  • •      Support the CTO on resolution of novel technology negotiations with the FAA
  • •      Support the Director of Certification in managing the FAA certification process

You Should Have

  • •      Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • •      8+ years of increasing responsibilities on aerospace FAA Part 23 certification projects
  • •      Expert knowledge of G-1 certification basis and G-2 means and methods of compliance
  • •      Expert knowledge of Part 23-64 and the special condition process
  • •      Expert knowledge developing compliance matrices for Subparts B through G
  • •      Expert knowledge of aircraft requirements management and tools

Nice to Have

  • •      Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • •      15+ years of relevant experience
  • •      Experience executing FAA Part 23 major modification STC projects or Part 33 projects through certification
  • •      Expert knowledge of ARP4761, ARP4754, and Parts 25, 43, 91, and 135
  • •      Familiarity with electrified propulsion certification-intent projects
