To support collaboration, mentorship opportunities, and effective project execution, BSI Engineering has adopted a hybrid work schedule in which employees are in the office a minimum of three days per week.

What We Offer:

  • Continued professional development in a high growth environment
  • individualized Mentoring and Development program

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Food, or Agricultural Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience, including process design in the food & beverage industry
  •  PE License preferred, but not required
  •  Strong understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, material and energy balances, process unit operations and separations, reaction kinetics and reaction design theory, and thermodynamics
  •  Ability to visit project job sites to gather field information (typical travel duration is up to 7 days, several times per year)

Technical Qualifications Preferred:

  • Strong in process modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus) and hydraulic modeling (e.g., PIPE-FLO)
  •  Knowledge of sanitary/hygienic design standards, specifically 3-A Sanitary Standards and ASME BPE (Bioprocessing Equipment)
  •  Knowledge of FDA food safety regulations, specifically 21 CFR Part 117 (Preventive Controls/GMP), Part 113 (thermally processed low-acid foods), and Part 114 (acidified foods), and familiarity with FSMA
  •  Knowledge of USDA/FSIS requirements and, for dairy operations, the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO)
  • Experience designing CIP/SIP systems and thermal, pasteurization, or aseptic processing systems
  •  Knowledge of ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) and ASME BPVC Section VIII, Div 1
  •  Knowledge of NFPA Standards, specifically 30, 497, 499, and 660

Responsibilities and Scope:

  • Supervise site visits, walk-downs, and site audits at food & beverage facilities to gather field data on moderate projects
  • Develop and provide discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and estimated budget for proposals
  • Supervise and create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Mass & Energy Balances (M&EBs)
  •  Develop Process Design Basis reports, Process Descriptions, and government compliance reports (e.g., air & water emissions, wastewater)
  •  Supervise and perform sanitary equipment sizing and selection (e.g., mixers, blenders, heat exchangers, homogenizers, separators, pasteurizers, evaporators, dryers, and fillers), prepare equipment specifications and bid evaluations, review shop drawings, and maintain equipment lists
  •  Design Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Sterilize-in-Place (SIP) systems and incorporate sanitary/hygienic design principles into process layouts and piping

  •  Supervise and perform process simulations in Aspen Plus
  •  Supervise and prepare process safety studies, relief calculations, Code review studies, and Electrical Area Classification (EAC) reviews and drawings (e.g., ammonia refrigeration, combustible dust, ethanol), and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs)
  •  Supervise and develop plant layouts with attention to sanitary zoning, hygienic design, and product/personnel flow
  •  Supervise, write, and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs)
