OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Senior Process Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex tasks related to manufacturing of several new products in development.The Process Development Team (PDT) is responsible for managing the implementation and on‑going support of smart factory and other automated solutions within Garmin's global operations group. These solutions are designed to increase operational efficiencies, drive higher standards of quality and ensure our processes exceed the expectations of our customers.Essential FunctionsResearch and development of new, cutting-edge automation conceptsApply knowledge of production and operations processes to overall designTest, validate and integrate equipment components into production environmentsModel moderately complex parts and assemblies in 3D CAD softwareInteract with product design engineers to incorporate Design for Manufacturability principlesDesign and develop basic software applicationsIndependently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problemsInteract with automation design team to ensure mechanical and electrical feasibilityInterface with outside teams and individuals to ensure all solutions comply with product design specificationsProject manage and collaborate with fellow project stakeholdersConduct training for equipment operators and maintenance techniciansTroubleshoot, support and continuously improve existing automated solutionsServe in a technical leadership capacity responsible for project planning and makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals/objectives for multiple new products in developmentAttend ECO Meetings as needed and serve as a member of the Material Review BoardProvide manufacturing cost estimates to engineering for PDPRecognize need for new technology in the factory and begin research into addition of potential technology improvementsAnalyze data to predict possible quality trends and implement mitigationEvaluate equipment for new processes and design custom equipment as necessary for Garmin specific applicationsParticipate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product and process development plans and concept documents including operational costsMake substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibilityMentor and provide guidance to less experienced Process Engineers (1 & 2)Contribute to advanced technical research on new processes and technologiesIndependently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problemsDemonstrate good judgment in setting schedules/risk takingOffer many suggestions to improve processes/author new procedures as appropriateProvide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and participate in recruiting activities as assignedAbility to travel domestically and internationally on occasionCleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standardsBasic QualificationsBachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrates proficiency and full understanding of engineering and operations principles and processesMust be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast paced, deadline-driven environmentDesired QualificationsOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Previous experience with Electrical panel design, PLC and HMI programming, controls and vision systems, and VB/VB.net/C# programmingExcellent problem-solving abilityExperience using 2D and 3D CAD design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks)Design experience with fixturing, pneumatics, sensors and safety controlsWorking knowledge of modern machining and rapid prototyping capabilitiesExperience programming industrial and/or collaborative robotsEnd effecter design experience in 3D modeling softwareExperience integrating controls and I/O into robot controllerCollaboration experience with other design groups and product owners to ensure manufacturability using automationGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
