Position Overview

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will serve as a key technical resource within the plant, supporting safe, reliable, and cost-effective

production. You will work closely with operations, reliability, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot production issues, optimize processes, and drive

continuous improvement initiatives.

This role requires both technical depth and leadership influence, as you'll guide cross-functional teams and help implement sustainable process

improvements-without direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with operations to solve complex production challenges
  • Own day-to-day troubleshooting and lead cross-functional teams to resolve issues
  • Identify and analyze lost production and inefficiencies impacting output
  • Monitor and improve yield, energy usage, and sustainability metrics
  • Evaluate equipment performance, uptime, and maintenance issues ("bad actors")
  • Act as a technical expert during plant upsets and emergencies
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Optimize raw material usage, utilities, and waste streams
  • Support and maintain accurate standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost and efficiency gains
  • Train and upskill operators and supervisors on technical processes
  • Ensure high standards for safety, quality, reliability, and customer responsiveness

Real-World Project Examples

  • Improving aging equipment like homogenizers used in wet processing (leak reduction, uptime improvements)
  • Optimizing flash drying processes, including dust and waste management
  • Driving improvements in waste handling, utilities efficiency, and process reliability
  • Partnering with operators to identify outdated workflows and implement modern solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical field (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change
  • Strong experience with process improvement, root cause analysis, and KPIs
  • Hands-on experience in plant environments (65-75% floor presence)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ISO 9000/9001 standards and compliance
  • Familiarity with EPA regulations and environmental processes
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies

Work Environment

  • On-site role in St. Louis, MO
  • Spend 65-75% of time on the manufacturing floor
  • Work closely with operations, reliability, and plant leadership
  • Exposure to real-time plant challenges and improvement initiatives

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
