We are seeking a seasoned Procurement Engineer to lead sourcing and technical procurement of major equipment for large-scale steam-cycle power generation projects. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, commercial strategy, and supplier execution. You will partner closely with internal technical teams to define equipment requirements, develop specifications, run competitive procurement processes, and support contract award and execution.

This position is ideal for an engineer by training who has spent a significant portion of their career on the procurement side of complex capital projects and understands how technical decisions translate into cost, schedule, risk, and long-term operability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to draft, review, and finalize technical specifications for major power-generation equipment, including:

  • Steam generators

  • Steam turbines and generators

  • Feedwater heaters

  • Condensate and feedwater pumps

  • Electrical switchgear, transformers, and auxiliary electrical systems

  • Other balance-of-plant equipment as required

  • Develop and issue RFQs/RFPs for major equipment packages; manage bidder communications and technical clarifications.

  • Perform detailed technical and commercial bid evaluations, including compliance reviews, scope alignment, risk identification, and lifecycle considerations.

  • Lead or support supplier selection recommendations and contract award packages in collaboration with legal, commercial, and project teams.

  • Support commercial negotiations by translating technical scope, guarantees, and exceptions into clear cost and risk implications.

  • Coordinate with suppliers through design development, manufacturing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), inspections, and delivery.

  • Interface with EPC contractors and vendors to manage scope boundaries, interfaces, and technical changes.

  • Ensure equipment selections comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements (e.g., ASME, IEEE, ASTM).

  • Capture lessons learned and help improve procurement specifications, templates, and processes for future projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline.

  • 10+ years of procurement experience supporting large capital projects, with a strong preference for power generation, energy, heavy industrial, or infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience procuring major engineered equipment (turbomachinery, boilers, rotating equipment, high-voltage electrical equipment, or similar).

  • Strong technical foundation enabling credible engagement with OEMs, EPCs, and internal engineers.

  • Experience leading technical bid evaluations and supporting commercial negotiations.

  • Familiarity with stage-gated project development (e.g., FEL/30-60-90%) and EPC project execution is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly document technical scope and commercial implications.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-moving, hands-on project environment.

  • Willingness to travel periodically to supplier facilities and project sites.

Compensation:

  • Salary range: $160,000 – $210,000, with competitive company stock options

  • Four weeks paid time off, plus 11 company holidays and 2 weeks of paid sick or family leave

  • 401k matching, comprehensive health insurance
