Job Description

At Fusion Recruiters, we partner with incredible organizations that are doing meaningful work — and this opportunity is no exception. We’re excited to support a long-standing, family-owned manufacturer recognized for innovation, precision, and American-made quality in their search for a strategic and hands-on Senior Product Development Engineer to join their team.

As the Senior Product Development Engineer, you’ll play a key role in taking mechanical products from initial concept through testing, validation, and production. You’ll independently own product development projects while partnering closely with Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and other engineering stakeholders to develop products that deliver exceptional performance, reliability, durability, and value.

This is a chance to bring your mechanical product development expertise to an organization with a strong history of innovation and a commitment to continuously improving its products and manufacturing processes. The company has been developing precision torque products for decades and has built its reputation around accuracy, reliability, durability, and practical engineering.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead mechanical product development projects from initial concept and requirements definition through testing, validation, and production implementation.
  • Develop and evaluate design concepts using engineering analysis, prototyping, experimentation, and product testing.
  • Design and improve mechanical mechanisms and loaded components with a focus on performance, reliability, durability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Establish fits, tolerances, specifications, and tolerance stack-ups while accounting for manufacturing variation.
  • Create and maintain detailed 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and other product documentation.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles and collaborate directly with Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure designs are practical and robust.
  • Investigate product-performance issues and quality-related nonconformities through root-cause and failure analysis, identifying and implementing meaningful design improvements.
  • Plan and conduct prototype evaluations, engineering experiments, durability testing, and competitive product teardowns to validate designs and identify opportunities for innovation.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical product design and development; 10+ years preferred, particularly with mechanically loaded products, tools, mechanisms, or other durable products.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently take mechanical products or significant design projects from problem definition and concept development through testing, validation, and production.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, including materials, steel heat treatment, mechanics and dynamics, mechanism design, fatigue, durability, wear, friction, lubrication, DFMA, and failure analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, engineering experimentation, measurement, testing, manufacturing processes, and 2D/3D CAD.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgment, organization, and the ability to independently manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborative communication style and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

Our client offers the opportunity to join a third-generation family-owned organization with more than 80 years of history, where engineering innovation and craftsmanship remain central to the business. The company has built its reputation by continually improving the accuracy, reliability, and durability of its products and has a long history of developing patented torque technologies.

The environment is particularly appealing for an engineer who enjoys owning projects, solving real-world mechanical problems, working hands-on with products, and seeing designs move from concept to production. The company also emphasizes lean manufacturing and the elimination of waste as a way to improve quality, efficiency, and customer value.

Highlights include:

  • 80+ years of engineering and manufacturing heritage, with three generations of family ownership and leadership.
  • A strong culture of innovation, precision, reliability, and durability, with a history that includes numerous patented product technologies.
  • Made-in-the-USA manufacturing, with machining, assembly, calibration, and other manufacturing capabilities performed in-house.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of applications and industries, including automotive, general industrial, heavy-duty industrial bolting, quality control/testing, aircraft maintenance, and bottling.
  • A commitment to lean manufacturing, quality improvement, and eliminating waste to maximize customer value.
  • The opportunity to work on products where engineering accuracy and real-world mechanical performance truly matter.
