Senior Professional Land Surveyor (Water and Sewer)

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a State of Florida Professional Land Surveyor license. A minimum of four to seven years of experience in land surveying is required. Must possess a Driver license.

Recruitment Notes

This is advanced professional, supervisory, and administrative work directing land surveying functions within the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing a moderate- to large-sized surveying section and performing professional surveying services requiring licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Florida.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to licensed Professional Surveyors, survey crews, technical staff, administrative and other subordinate personnel engaged in a wide range of surveying activities. This position entails establishing and verifying property boundaries; conducting topographic, boundary, route, easement, and construction surveys; preparing legal descriptions, sketches, maps, record plats, and other survey documents; determining grades and elevations; establishing horizontal and vertical control; laying out proposed utility and infrastructure improvements; creating and maintaining survey control, alignments, and geospatial records in support of the Departments capital improvement, operations, and asset management programs; and the review and approval of consultant- and contractor-prepared surveys, record drawings, and as-built drawings to ensure compliance with Department standards, applicable laws and regulations, and accepted surveying principles and best practices.

In addition to technical oversight, the incumbent in this position is responsible for managing the delivery of professional surveying services and associated consultant contracts. This position will be tasked with administering professional service agreements, negotiating and managing work orders, reviewing project schedules and deliverables, monitoring consultant performance, evaluating contract compliance, reviewing and approving invoices for payment, and coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure surveying services are delivered in a timely, cost-effective, and quality-focused manner.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for establishing operational priorities; managing personnel, budgets, and resources; overseeing quality assurance and quality control programs; resolving complex technical issues; ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, professional standards of practice, and departmental policies; and providing technical guidance and consultation on surveying matters affecting engineering design, construction, land acquisition, easements, and utility infrastructure.
