Job Description
The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for the comprehensive financial management of multiple complex construction projects. You will provide mentorship to junior accounting staff and serve as a primary financial advisor to the Project Management group. This role requires a "deep dive" approach to project financials, ensuring that revenue recognition, cost-to-complete projections, and risk assessments are handled with a high degree of autonomy.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Portfolio Management: Oversee the full accounting lifecycle for a diverse portfolio of projects, typically totaling $150M–$250M+ in active contract value.
- Complex Requisitions: Lead the preparation of sophisticated owner billings (G702/703) for Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and Cost-Plus contracts.
- Mentorship: Assist in training and reviewing the work of Staff Project Accountants to ensure consistency and accuracy across the department.
- Project Strategy: Partner with PMs to conduct monthly "deep dive" cost-to-complete reviews, identifying potential budget overruns before they impact the bottom line.
- Compliance Leadership: Oversee complex subcontractor compliance issues, including multi-tier lien waiver tracking and specialty insurance requirements.
- Audit & Reporting: Lead internal and external audit preparation for assigned projects; develop custom financial reports to assist executive leadership in decision-making.
- Financial Closeout: Managed the comprehensive closeout lifecycle, including final subcontractor audit reconciliations, multi-tier lien waiver finalization, and timely submission of final owner billings to ensure rapid project wrap-up.
- System Optimization: Act as a "Power User" for Erland’s ERP and project management software, assisting in the troubleshooting and refinement of financial workflows.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
- Experience: 5+ years of construction project accounting experience. Prior experience with a mid-to-large-sized CM or GC is required.
- Technical: Expert proficiency in construction-specific ERPs (Sage, Timberline, etc.), project management tools (Procore, Autodesk), and subcontractor payment platforms (Procore, Textura, GCPay, etc)
- Competencies: Exceptional analytical skills, the ability to manage competing deadlines for multiple stakeholders, and a proven track record of improving financial processes.
Salary Range
The anticipated base salary for the Senior Project Accountant role is $100,000 - $120,000. Please note that base pay is only one part of Erland’s total compensation package.
