Senior Project Engineer

Emerge is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a direct hire Senior Project Engineer job in Arvada, Colorado for our client, a premier manufacturer serving the Defense, Aerospace and other industries. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers to develop turbo machinery from initial specification through flight-qualified hardware for some of the most challenging applications in the industry. You will serve as the technical lead on advanced industry projects, working closely with only high-level oversight from Principal and Chief Engineers. This position combines deep technical ownership with project leadership, including managing schedules, budgets, and cross-functional coordination with manufacturing and procurement teams.

The salary range for this role is USD 150,000 to USD 185,000, commensurate with experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, profit sharing, employee stock purchase plan, generous PTO, tuition reimbursement, and a performance-based bonus program).
 
Responsibilities for the Senior Project Engineer job in Arvada, Colorado include:

• Leading the conceptualization and technical development of new turbomachine designs to meet customer performance requirements
• Applying engineering principles to perform advanced calculations involving heat transfer, structural and rotating component stress analysis, aerodynamics, cycle analysis, and component sizing
• Leading complex projects to meet technical, schedule, and budget requirements with minimal oversight from senior engineering leadership
• Developing and maintaining project plans, budgets, and schedules, including managing design reviews, development testing, and hardware qualification milestones
• Directing and reviewing the work of engineers and mechanical designers to ensure cost-effective, manufacturable designs
• Managing programmatic deliverables and customer-facing documentation throughout the project lifecycle
• Mentoring and providing oversight to junior project engineers, delegating work as needed
• Coordinating with on-site manufacturing and technician teams to resolve issues and support process improvements during project execution

 
Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a high-aptitude manufacturing environment
• Minimum of 15 years of combined experience with a technical ownership focus on turbomachinery design and components, with a strong focus on turbomachinery component design and selection for new product introduction
• This position is subject to ITAR compliance: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status; ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Proven expertise in rotating machinery and associated systems, including design, analysis, testing, and troubleshooting
• Working knowledge of mechanical design areas such as rotor dynamics, stress, thermal analysis, bearings, and seals
• Experience with permanent magnet motor design and rotordynamics/vibrations
• Strong aptitude for project management, including schedule, budget, risk, and test planning
• Willingness to work overtime as needed and travel up to 10% of the time
• Experience with Ansys and Solidworks preferred
• Applicable FEA/CFD training certificates and completion of the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) or Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam preferred
• A Colorado State Professional Engineer License is preferred
