Title: Senior Project Manager – Data and Analytics
Location: Remote
Target Start Date: ASAP; June 1 target
Type: Contract
Salary / Pay Rate: $60-$75/hr
Why Work Here
This is a strong opportunity to embed yourself within a data-driven organization that is actively investing in its analytics and reporting capabilities. The team operates with a modern, agile mindset, working in two-week sprints and structured planning events that keep work organized and forward-moving. Leadership values collaboration and communication at every level, and the environment rewards people who bring structure without bureaucracy. The role offers real variety, as you will touch a wide range of data initiatives rather than being locked into a single project. For a project manager who enjoys working at the intersection of business and technology, this engagement offers meaningful work, a supportive team, and a clear path toward extension.
About the Role
This role is embedded within a centralized project management function supporting a busy data and analytics organization. Rather than owning a single large project, you will manage a prioritized backlog of work that spans reporting, dashboards, predictive modeling, and data architecture initiatives. Day-to-day, you will work directly with technical and business stakeholders to keep initiatives moving, translate business needs into user stories and epics, and ensure delivery teams stay aligned and unblocked. The ideal candidate brings strong agile experience, is comfortable operating as a project manager, product owner, or scrum master depending on what the team needs, and has enough data literacy to communicate credibly with engineers and analysts.
Responsibilities
- Manage a prioritized backlog of data and analytics initiatives including reporting, dashboards, predictive modeling, and data architecture modernization
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into user stories, epics, and features for delivery teams
- Facilitate agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and BI planning events within a two-week sprint cadence
- Serve as the primary coordination point between business stakeholders and the data and IT organization, managing dependencies and resolving blockers
- Communicate project status, risks, and priorities upward to senior leadership and downward to working-level technical teams
- Wear both project manager and product owner or scrum master hats as the team requires, adapting your approach to what drives the most value
- Track work and manage project artifacts in Azure DevOps, maintaining visibility into workstreams and team capacity
- Monitor budget status at a high level and flag concerns or reporting needs to appropriate stakeholders
Required Skills- 7+ years of project management experience, ideally supporting data, analytics, or technology-focused teams
- Strong ability to translate business requirements into user stories, epics, and features for technical delivery teams
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with both senior leadership and hands-on technical teams
- Hands-on agile experience, including working within sprint-based delivery models and participating in planning events
- Comfortable managing a backlog of concurrent initiatives rather than a single defined project
- Experience working in a data or analytics environment is strongly preferred over industry-specific domain knowledge
Bonus / Soft Skills- Product owner and/or scrum master experience, with the flexibility to take on either role as needed
- Exposure to Azure DevOps as a work management and tracking tool
- Familiarity with SQL, including the ability to read queries and understand what the code is doing, even without hands-on coding experience
- Experience working alongside teams that use Databricks or similar data engineering platforms
- Background in insurance or claims operations, though data experience is weighted more heavily
- PMP certification or equivalent formal project management credential
- Undergraduate degree preferred; advanced degree not required
- Adaptable and open to learning; candidates who are experienced but not rigid in their approach are strongly preferred
