Stantec''s Minneapolis-based team delivers a wide range of industrial projects across the food and beverage, process, chemical, bio-agricultural, and manufacturing sectors. Your Opportunity

As a Project Manager, you will safely lead multi-discipline teams in delivering a wide range of project sizes and complexities which will include large, complex capital projects from initial definition and front-end planning through detailed design, procurement support, construction support, and project closeout. Projects are typically centered around our process engineering team and supported by engineers, specialists, and design professionals from discipline groups across Stantec. You will provide overall leadership for scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, safety, client communication, and commercial performance.

Reporting Relationships

This role reports to the Business Center Operations Leader and works closely with Market Leaders responsible for client and project development. The Project Manager will also coordinate with discipline leaders, project controls, commercial management, and other Stantec teams as required for successful project delivery.

The Project Manager leads multi-discipline project teams through a matrix organization. Although team members may not report directly to the Project Manager, they are accountable to the Project Manager for commitments related to project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and coordination. The Project Manager establishes clear expectations, confirms roles and responsibilities, resolves issues, and holds the team accountable for agreed project outcomes.

Your Key Responsibilities

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

• Support the development of proposals, work plans, fee estimates, and delivery strategies for all phases of projects.
• Engage with clients to understand current and future project needs and prepare effective technical and commercial proposals that clearly define scope, assumptions, exclusions, schedule, staffing, deliverables, and budget.
• Develop and strengthen client relationships that support client satisfaction, trusted partnerships, and repeat business.
• Establish and manage the project execution plan, including scope, work breakdown structure, budget, schedule, quality, risk, communication, and change management requirements.
• Lead integrated teams of engineers, designers, specialists, project controls professionals, and external partners across multiple offices and delivery centers.
• Monitor and forecast project health, including earned progress, schedule performance, budget performance, staffing, risks, and key decisions, with support from project controls personnel.
• Provide clear project leadership, support team development, mentor project personnel, and foster a collaborative and accountable project culture.
• Lead effective project coordination and decision-making meetings with clients, internal team members, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Proactively identify, document, communicate, and manage potential changes to scope, schedule, budget, assumptions, or execution strategy. Secure appropriate authorization before directing out-of-scope work and maintain timely change records.
• Maintain project documentation and controls, including decision logs, action logs, risk and opportunity registers, change logs, meeting records, forecasts, and progress reporting.
• Direct project activities in accordance with Stantec''s quality management requirements, including development and implementation of the project-specific quality plan.
• Champion Stantec''s and the client''s health, safety, security, and environmental requirements, with particular emphasis on safety in design and safe field execution.
• Develop and maintain project staffing plans, coordinate resource needs with discipline leaders, and support recruiting when required.
• Drive timely decisions and coordinated action to maintain project momentum, schedule, quality, and cost performance while minimizing rework.
• Manage project commercial and contractual requirements, including compliance with the contract, invoicing, cash flow, subconsultant performance, and escalation of material risks.
• Develop recovery plans when project performance deviates from the approved plan and communicate impacts, decisions, and required actions to project and business leadership.
• Support project closeout, including final deliverables, financial closure, client feedback, lessons learned, and transition of follow-up actions.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Qualifications & Experience

• A preferred minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience, including at least 7 years of progressively responsible project management experience.
• Demonstrated experience across multiple stages of project execution, preferably using a Front-End Loading stage-gate process or a comparable project development methodology.
• Demonstrated success managing large, complex, multi-discipline engineering and design projects is required.
• Strong written, verbal, facilitation, negotiation, and presentation skills, with a client-focused approach and the ability to translate business needs into clear project requirements.
• Strong understanding of engineering and design deliverable development, interdisciplinary coordination, and the relationship among drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment information, schedules, and cost estimates.
• Working knowledge of process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, structural, and architectural disciplines, with the ability to identify interfaces, dependencies, and potential scope gaps.
• Proficiency with project scheduling, cost forecasting, risk management, document management, and collaboration tools. Familiarity with 3D design environments is preferred.
• Demonstrated capability in resource planning, financial and commercial management, risk-based decision-making, issue resolution, and consistent delivery of results.
• Experience with project governance, stage-gate reviews, project controls, contracting strategies, procurement support, construction support, and project closeout.
• Ability to lead geographically distributed teams and collaborate effectively across offices, disciplines, business lines, and delivery centers.

Education

• A bachelor''s degree in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited university is required. Professional Engineer licensure and Project Management Professional certification are preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position is associated with Stantec''s Plymouth, Minnesota office. The successful candidate is expected to work from the office and client sites as needed. A flexible or remote work arrangement may be considered based on project, client, and business needs; current project needs may require on-site work at a local client facility up to three days per week. Travel to client and project sites may also be required.

Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. Majority of time spent using a computer/laptop at a workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional - 1-33% of shift. Subject to extended periods of sitting; may be required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if needed.

Pay Range:
