Senior Project Manager - Large Scale Construction (K-12/Public Works)

The Work

LAUSD's Project Execution group delivers one of the largest public school construction programs in the country, under the oversight of DSA, the Division of the State Architect, the state office that approves public school construction. As Senior Project Manager, you work above the project level, developing, assigning, and monitoring the Owner's Authorized Representatives (OARs) on their projects and resolving the program's most complex issues, disputes, and disagreements.

You review construction progress against the submitted schedules, review change orders from all projects and assess their impact on the District, and review and verify payment applications as part of the fiscal management of multiple projects. You give functional direction over construction schedules, cost control, dispute resolution, contract administration, and quality control.

You also assist Regional Directors and Facilities management with bid and contract planning, assess bid specifications against District needs and timelines, monitor the administration of architect and consultant contracts, coordinate with other District branches, and help develop internal policies and procedures. This is a full-time, in-person position. The District has 6 openings.

What You Will Own

- Resolution of complex construction issues, disputes, and disagreements

- Development, assignment, and performance of OARs on their projects

- Construction progress against submitted schedules

- Change orders from all projects and their impact on the District

- Bid and contract planning support for Regional Directors, and assessment of bid specifications against District needs and timelines

- Variance monitoring in the construction project database for scheduling and cost control reporting

- Payment application review and fiscal management of multiple projects

- Functional direction over schedules, cost control, dispute resolution, contract administration, and quality control

- Administration of contracts for architects and related consultants

- Coordination with District branches, including Environmental Health and Safety, Design and A/E Technical Support, Asset Management, Facilities Contract Administration, the Inspection Unit, Maintenance and Operations, and local districts

- Internal policies and procedures

Requirements

What You Bring (one of the following)

- 20 years of full-time professional project and construction management experience, with 10 of those years managing large programs with projects over $50 million each (not cumulative), 5 years in educational facility construction, public works, or large commercial projects (projects outside California count), and a degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management. A Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) may substitute for the degree

- 25 years of full-time professional project and construction management experience, with 20 of those years managing large programs with projects over $50 million each (not cumulative), and the same 5 years in educational facility construction, public works, or large commercial projects. A degree and a CCM are preferred, not required

Preferred

- Design-build experience

- BIM (building information modeling)

- LEED or CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) projects

- DSA construction and design processes

- A California Architect registration or Professional Engineer license

Benefits

Salary range: $213,000 to $234,000 per year, based on experience.
