Senior Project Manager Summary:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning and implementation of organizational effectiveness and performance improvement projects on behalf of the entity executive. This will be accomplished by applying his/her professional skills in defining the project scope, building project plans, leading project team goals and ensuring task completion and issue resolution. Projects may include organizational effectiveness/human capital management, risk reduction initiatives, and clinical quality improvement initiatives. The incumbent meets the project's strategic operational and financial goals while promoting a co-operative environment of open communication and mutual respect among all team members. The Senior Project Manager must have a working knowledge of performance improvement methodologies, effective interpersonal skills, be able to establish good working relationships, collaborate with networks of employees at all levels in the organization, be able to foster cooperation in others, and be a creative problem-solver. In addition, the Senior Project Manager must be able to effectively delegate work, hold others accountable for deliverables, and effectively communicate with key project stakeholders of project status and issues. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for supporting all special projects needs of the entity executive, including the liaisons with key stakeholders, analysis of market trends and internal performance, the analysis of data in collaboration with experienced data analysts and the production of written reports and oral presentations. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness, and creativity, and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization. The position requires the ability to anticipate and deliver upon analytic needs far in advance and also a substantial amount of just in time support often outside of traditional working hours.
Responsibilities:
- Takes the lead on projects or stakeholder support providing active and visible leadership on assigned initiatives including:
- Managing projects independently and applying sound judgment in resolving project challenges.
- Tracking requests and working with team leadership to triage and prioritize work.
- Serving as primary point of contact and team representative to the relevant client group.
- Working with stakeholders to identify potential issues or opportunities and develop data-driven work plans to address them.
- Overseeing analysis consistent with the work plan.
- Working with team leadership to vet analysis and ensure analysis quality.
- Coordinating with team leadership and others, as assigned, to ensure analytics are aligned with team and system imperatives.
- Working with team leadership to build consensus around key actions arising from their analysis.
- Acts as an active and visible leader within the team, including management and mentoring of less experienced analysts.
- Supports maintenance and improvement of project and department specific data, analytics, and reporting infrastructure as directed by team leadership.
- Facilitates sharing of best practices across entities, service lines and departments.
Credentials:
- Project Management Professional Certification (Preferred).
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science in Healthcare, Finance, Business Admin, Management, or related field AND 5+ years of Business or Healthcare experience, including 2 years of project management experience (Required).
- Master of Arts or Science in Healthcare, Finance, Business Admin, Management, or related field AND 5+ years of Business or Healthcare experience, including 2 years of project management experience (Preferred).
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience in evaluating, managing the development of, and implementing projects (Required).
- Demonstrated experience managing programs consisting of multiple projects and project teams (Required).
- Demonstrated experience working with business and clinical management at the highest levels of an organization (Required).
- Ability and experience coordinating the activities and deliverables of staff on a project team from various areas of an organization (Required).
- Demonstrated experience in the use of project management tools and methodologies (project plans, work breakdown structures, testing artifacts, go-live planning etc) (Required).
- Ability to deliver clear and concise product presentations and to write clearly and effectively (Required).
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Program/Project Management disciplines in a complex Quality and Patient Safety or Clinical Systems environment (Preferred).
- Demonstrated knowledge of health care operations and systems (Preferred).
- Working knowledge of applications development, database management and operating systems (Preferred).
- Strong business analysis skills, specifically with business and functional requirements development (Preferred).
Project Manager Summary:
The Project Manager within the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP), is responsible for leading and managing key strategic initiatives in assigned areas across CPUP and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS). The Project Manager is tasked with the development of robust project plans that detail scope, specific actions, accountable parties, deliverable timelines, and communication / training specifics for key projects and initiatives both within the team and across the institution. The Project Manager is CPUP's primary liaison with other UPHS entities and is responsible for assigned internal communications, as well as being a key member of the department's team.
Responsibilities:
- Determines scope and size of a project, as well as the requirements for each stage and builds a cohesive project plan with defined tasks and timelines.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates project activities, manages resources and activities and maintains project focus by shifting priorities when necessary.
- Manages systems and operational issues and is prepared to discuss through scheduling appropriate resources and utilizing communication tools. Participates in measurement activities, completes reports and provides project plan updates.
- Delegates project tasks to interns when appropriate.
- Coordinates assigned events. Plans/manages logistics for events, ensures departmental engagement, operates within budgetary guidelines.
- Facilitates CPUP leadership rounds process, organizes, facilitates, and actively contributes to ad-hoc CPUP projects.
- Organizes, facilitates, and actively contributes to standing committees.
- Contributes to ongoing professional development of other team members.
Credentials:
- Project Management Professional Certification (Preferred).
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Finance, Business Administration, or Management AND 2 years of experience (Required).
- Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management or Business Administration (Preferred).
