Position Overview
UES is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager / Technical Writer - Asbestos & Lead to support our environmental consulting operations in Southern California.
This is a senior-level technical position for an experienced environmental professional with extensive knowledge of asbestos, lead, hazardous materials surveys, air monitoring, regulatory compliance, and technical reporting.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing and reviewing survey reports, supporting and managing field personnel, attending client meetings, and ensuring projects meet applicable regulatory and client requirements. Experience working with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) projects, processes, and reporting requirements is strongly preferred.
This position requires someone who can operate independently, provide technical leadership to field teams, communicate confidently with clients, and produce accurate, defensible technical reports.

What Success Looks Like
This individual will serve as a senior technical resource for the Southern California environmental team, ensuring that survey and air monitoring projects are properly executed in the field and translated into accurate, timely, regulatory-compliant technical reports. The ideal candidate combines deep regulatory and technical knowledge with strong writing, project management, field leadership, and client communication skills. They should be comfortable moving between reviewing technical data, writing reports, directing field staff, and sitting across the table from a client to discuss project requirements and findings.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 5+ years of environmental consulting experience Professional Geologist; PG or Professional Engineer; PE registration/license Knowledge of environmental permitting, regulations, and testing methods Certifications in relevant inspection or testing areas preferred (e.g., ACI, ICC, ATTI, Nuclear Safety). Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-specific platforms (e.g., project management, data reporting systems). Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills Willingness to travel to job sites and work in diverse environmental conditions Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and interface with clients and regulatory bodies effectively
Preferred Qualifications
Travel Requirements
This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 20% of the time, in support of business
objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on
project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may
be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and
use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position operates in a combination of professional office and project site environments. The role requires flexibility to manage technical and project responsibilities in the office while also visiting client and active project sites throughout Southern California as needed.
