Role Summary
The Senior Property Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of a diverse residential property portfolio. This position is responsible for financial reporting, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, cash management activities, and month end close processes while partnering closely with property management and corporate stakeholders.
This individual will ensure accurate financial reporting, support audit requirements, analyze account activity, and provide valuable accounting guidance across assigned properties. The role offers strong visibility and opportunities for long term growth within a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and ownership reporting requirements
Record and maintain prepaids, accruals, journal entries, and month end close activities
Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations while resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
Analyze financial results and prepare variance explanations for management review
Review general ledger activity and ensure transactions are recorded accurately
Maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, insurance, taxes, and other key accounts
Partner with property managers and internal teams regarding accounting treatments and financial reporting matters
Support annual audits and assist with investor, lender, and regulatory reporting requirements
Monitor weekly cash activity and maintain accurate cash reporting for assigned properties
Ensure proper documentation and audit trails are maintained across accounting processes
Key Requirements
4+ years of property accounting experience with a preference for multifamily residential portfolios
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Hands on experience with Yardi property management and accounting software
Strong knowledge of prepaids, accruals, month end close activities, and general ledger accounting
Experience performing bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting financial reporting processes
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Excellent attention to detail, organization, communication, and accountability skills
Preferred Qualifications
Multifamily housing accounting experience
Experience supporting multiple properties within a portfolio environment
Exposure to audit support and investor reporting processes
Strong business partner mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments
