Job Description and Duties

The Senior Psychologist provides facility wide and department wide technical expertise, policy recommendations, training and consultation regarding psychological/behavioral services and supports for persons with developmental disabilities, dual diagnoses and severe challenging behavior. The position requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires ability to carry and lift items of various weights. Requires ability to climb, push, bend and stoop. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires the ability to verbally communicate effectively. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Ongoing interaction with clients. Manage an assigned caseload to meet the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, psychiatric disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Participate as an interdisciplinary team member in planning conferences, the coordination and development of behavior programs, the coordination of psychiatric, neurological and psychotropic medication consultations and the provision of specialized therapeutic interventions. Must be able to travel to DDS locations throughout California, including state-operated facility location (Porterville Developmental Center). Travel may require overnight stays. Position is limited term with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Effective October 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three (3) percent in exchange for five (5) hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Canyon Springs is located in Riverside County in Cathedral City, 110 miles southeast of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley. Recreation/cultural attractions include golf, tennis, desert preserves, parks, rock climbing, hiking, biking, museums, art galleries, and theater. Next door is well-known city of Palm Springs. Although known as a winter resort area, increasing numbers are making the Coachella Valley their year-round home. There are schools, and shopping in the area.
