Senior Quality Supplier Engineer (Service)
Contract: 5 months through end of year (will not go perm role)

Role Overview & Key Requirements
Position Type: Contract, not full-time; effective until December 31, 2026.
Location: Plymouth, Michigan (Rivian facility); hybrid work model with
flexibility for remote work and periodic onsite presence.
Travel: Significant travel may be required, potentially on short notice
(domestic and international); no fixed forecast for travel needs but
candidates must be prepared for up to 50% travel as needed.
Working Hours: Flexible 8-hour days, with adjustments for early/late
supplier calls (no overtime allowed).

Core Focus: Over 90% of the work will be on PPAP (Production Part
Approval Process) for service parts, with occasional supplier audits and
escalations.

Role Summary
You will work alongside cross-functional teams to drive Rivian quality requirements and manage our contract manufacturers quality performance ensuring seamless scaling of production. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and quality of Rivian service parts, ensuring successful launches for new programs as proper management on current ones. This role reports through the Service Supplier Quality Engineering Team.

Desired Candidate Profile
  • Experience: Minimum five years (preferably more) in supplier development, service parts, or related quality engineering roles.
  • Candidates must understand the unique requirements of service parts lifecycle management, not just production.
  • Background: Open to candidates from both supplier and manufacturing backgrounds, but must show appreciation for full lifecycle management, especially post-production/service aspects.

Key Skills:
  • Communication (especially with global suppliers, many of whom may not be native English speakers; multilingualism is a plus)
  • Time management and prioritization (ability to assess and address multiple parts/projects in parallel)
  • Accountability (proactive supplier management, escalation as needed)
  • Adaptability (willingness to work in a dynamic, scaling environment, not a traditional OEM)
Technical Must Have's

Industry Knowledge: Automotive preferred but not required; familiarity with PPAP, APQP, and lifecycle documentation essential.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with suppliers for industrialization and readiness for multiple automotive components.
  • Support supplier selection and capability assessment for various projects, ensuring alignment with program timelines and quality expectations.
  • Drive APQP discipline and enforce PPAP requirements, ensuring suppliers meet dimensional, material, and performance validation before production approval.
  • Track industrialization project KPIs, internally and externally to assess supplier readiness.
  • Evaluate and validate supplier manufacturing processes by leading process audits, PFMEA reviews, control plan validation, and equipment capability/Run@rate assessments.
  • Optimize supplier manufacturing scalability, ensuring production lines are capable of meeting increasing volume and quality expectations during ramp-up phases.
  • Monitor supplier industrialization performance through KPIs such as on-time PPAP submission, process capability indices (Cpk/Ppk), defect rates (PPM), issue closure rate, and supplier corrective action effectiveness.
  • Facilitate problem resolution using structured methodologies (focused problem solving) to address defects, process deviations, and launch roadblocks proactively.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to drive VA/VE cost optimization, ensuring seamless design implementation into supplier manufacturing processes and technology while maintaining quality and performance standards

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or other related field
    • Strong Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) development, Lean manufacturing, Traceability requirements
    • Technical expertise of automotive components designs and manufacturing, including knowledge of safety and test requirements and appearance approval process.
    • Knowledge of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) and datum structures.
    • Experience in Extrusion and fabrication commodities.
    • VDA 6.3 credentials and understanding preferred.
    • In depth knowledge of IATF16949:2016 and understanding of ISO14001. ISO9001 is also a preferred knowledge set.
    • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8-10 hours per day.
    • Required to communicate using phone and/or e-mail.
    • Ability to view, read, and interpret documents.
    • Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuations
