Job Responsibilities:
Mission of the Position:
The Senior Reactive Black Belt Engineer is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving high-priority field failures within the Powertrain division (Engine, Transmission, and Driveline). Utilizing Six Sigma Black Belt methodologies, this role acts as the "first responder" to warranty spikes, translating complex field data into actionable engineering solutions. You will lead cross-functional "Red X" style investigations to determine root causes and implement permanent corrective actions to reduce Warranty CPV (Claims Per Vehicle).
Key Responsibilities:
- Root Cause Investigation: Lead deep-dive technical investigations into complex powertrain failures using DMAIC and 8D frameworks.
- Statistical Data Analysis: Perform advanced reliability analysis including Weibull modeling, trend analysis, and failure rate predictions to quantify the magnitude of field issues.
- Warranty Management: Monitor global warranty databases to identify emerging trends before they reach critical thresholds.
- Technical Leadership: Chair the Corrective Action Board (CAB) for powertrain issues, Coordinating between Plant Quality, Design Engineering, and Tier 1 Suppliers.
- Testing & Validation: Oversee Design Review Based on Test Results (DRBTR) and hardware-in-the-loop testing to replicate field failures in a controlled environment.
- Supplier Engagement: Drive accountability with external suppliers when components fail to meet durability standards, ensuring APQP and PPAP compliance for replacement parts.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Six Sigma Black Belt Certification: Shainin RedX, Mastery of Minitab or equivalent statistical software.
- Powertrain Expertise: Deep understanding of internal combustion engines & transmission logic
- Quality Methodologies: Expert-level knowledge of PFMEA/DFMEA, APQP, and Shainin Red X problem-solving techniques.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master's degree is a plus.
- 7+ years of experience in automotive quality, specifically within a reactive or fast-response environment.
- Urgency & Decisiveness: Ability to remain calm and analytical during high-stakes product "firefights."
- Communication: Capable of translating highly technical Weibull data into clear executive summaries for leadership.
- Mechanical Intuition: A "hands-on" engineer who isn't afraid to go to the teardown lab to inspect a failed long-block or gearset personally.
Magna Standards:
- Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna's Charter and Constitution.
- Follow Magna's Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
- Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF 16949).
