Senior Research Scientist – Cambridge, MA

Position Summary

As a Senior Research Scientist at ICON, you will play a key role in clinical sample testing, assay development, and data analysis within a CLIA/CAP-accredited laboratory environment. This position requires strong expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular biology techniques, and clinical NGS assay validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical sample testing, including nucleic acid isolation, nucleic acid quantification and QC, library preparation (manual/automation), data analysis, and reporting laboratory results as directed.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate NGS based clinical assays.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation plans/reports and workbooks.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to internal teams and external clients.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience in NGS (preferred).
  • Experience in oncology, genetics, or infectious disease NGS assay development is highly desirable.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in molecular biology techniques.
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation systems, bioinformatics tools (e.g. IGV, secondary/tertiary analysis), IVD NGS test development/validation, or programming/AI are preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

$91,336.00-$114,170.00
