Distinguishing Features of the Class
Incumbents to a position in this class are responsible for the researching, development, writing submission and managing pf private and public funding opportunities that will enhance the Citys grant-funded programs and sustain current initiatives. The incumbent will work closely across city departments to advance the citys sustainability and resiliency strategy and identify resources to execute it. The incumbent will oversee, administration of multiple funding streams from private and public funding source which span several years, including funding allocated through legislation. The incumbents will lead others a part of team to ensure proper compliance with funder and City policies and procedures.

Typical Work Activities
Works with city and departmental leadership to identify activities and initiatives that may be eligible for public or private philanthropic funding;
Tracks deadlines of applications, milestones, financial and other reports, and other necessary documents required in a timely manner to funders or city employees;
Acts as a conduit between the Division of Budget and other departments to communicate about the status of grants, progress of current grants, updates to policies, and resolving issues;
Oversees work product of other staff in a team environment;
Develops citywide guidelines on grant strategy on a macro and micro level, and applies guidelines to potential opportunities;
Uses data to inform decisions about potential and current grants, present data findings to leadership and other relevant committees and personnel;
Reviews and understands funder regulations for awarded grants and creates and implements policies ensure compliance;
Researches best practices employed in other municipalities and determined whether they are replicable in the City of Buffalo and potential funding streams for them;
Collaborates with other governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, research institutes and other community stakeholders;
Monitors subcontractors to ensure compliance with city policies;
Performs related duties as required to meet the needs, goals and objectives of the project.
Minimum Qualifications
A) Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or Environmental Science and two (2) years of full-time relevant experience in grant writing or municipal administration;
OR
B)Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or Environmental Design and four (4) years? experience in grant writing or municipal administration.
OR
C)An equivalent combination as defined within the limits of A and B.
