Description

If you are an experienced rowing coach who thrives in a collaborative, safety‑focused boathouse environment, we'd love for you to join our team at Green Lake Small Craft Center. We are seeking a Senior Rowing Coach to lead our Weekend Masters program-an adult group ranging from recent Learn‑to‑Row graduates to rowers preparing for competitive morning training and regional regattas.

This role is ideal for a coach who excels at blending technical development with fitness‑focused programming, managing diverse ability levels, and fostering an inclusive, community‑centered rowing culture. You will guide athletes in small‑boat handling, sculling and sweep technique, structured training progression, and safe navigation of Green Lake. The senior coach will coordinate weekly practice plans and collaborate with 1-2 assistant coaches depending on class size.

Senior Rowing Coach duties and responsibilities:

• Lead on‑water coaching sessions every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM
• Deliver land‑based sessions when weather conditions require it
• Guide newer rowers as they refine sweeping, sculling, coxing, and boat‑handling skills
• Challenge intermediate and advanced athletes with higher‑intensity workouts, increased meters, small‑boat proficiency, and regatta preparation
• Coordinate practice plans and weekly progressions with assistant coaches
• Collaborate with masters, junior, and weekend coaching teams to ensure effective equipment sharing and program alignment
• Foster an inclusive, supportive community for a wide range of adult rowers
• Maintain safety as a top priority-modeling safe navigation, educating athletes on traffic patterns and weather considerations, and reinforcing proper equipment handling

Senior Rowing Coach qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of rowing experience
• Minimum 3 years of rowing coaching experience, preferably with adult masters or recreational sweep/sculling programs
• Strong knowledge of rowing biomechanics, rigging, and small‑boat handling (1x, 2x)
• Understanding of coxswain/bow navigation and safety
• US Rowing Coaching Certification: Level 1 required; Level 2 preferred
• CPR/AED certification
• Valid driver's license
• WA Boater Education Card (may be completed within 30 days of hire)
• SafeSport certification (required prior to start)
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to tailor instruction to varied adult learning styles and fitness goals
