Senior RPGLE Developer

Overview:

 

Prime Inc is seeking an experienced Senior RPGLE Developer to design, build, and maintain IBM i (AS/400) applications. Experience supporting transportation, trucking, or logistics operations is highly desirable.

 

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications in RPGLE and fully free-format RPG, CL, and embedded SQL on IBM i.
• Maintain and help modernize legacy RPG III/RPG400 programs.
• Write SQL for Db2 for i, including complex joins, stored procedures, triggers, views, and user-defined functions.
• Analyze production issues, perform root cause analysis, and deliver timely fixes with minimal disruption to 24/7 operations.
• Build and support integrations between the IBM i and external systems via web services/REST APIs and third-party platforms.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and working software.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Document application designs, data flows, and operational procedures.

Qualifications:

Knowledge

· Background in transportation, trucking, freight brokerage, 3PL, or logistics. Familiarity with order entry, dispatch, load planning, driver settlement, carrier pay, fuel tax/IFTA, imaging, or billing workflows.

· Ability to work directly with business users and translate operational needs into technical solutions.

· Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

 

Experience, Education, and Training

• 7+ years of professional development experience with RPGLE / ILE RPG on the IBM i platform.
• Strong understanding of free-format RPG, ILE concepts, RPG III/RPG400 and embedded SQL.
• Experience with CL programming, display files and subfiles, printer files, and DDS.
• Experience with debugging tools, job logs, and diagnosing issues in a live production environment.
• Experience with a transportation management system (TMS) like Innovative Computing Corporation (ICC), or a comparable homegrown IBM i platform.
• Experience with mileage and routing engines (PC*MILER, Rand McNally) and telematics/ELD integrations.
• Experience with integration with external platfoms (HTTPAPI, JSON/XML parsing with DATA-INTO / DATA-GEN / YAJL).
• Experience with JAVA, Python, C#.

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires being able to sit and remain focused and motivated for long periods of time. Being able to multitask between the computer, phone, and different projects is required.

 

Working Environment

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment. Call volume can be heavy at times.
