Senior Safety Specialist – Commercial Construction

Location: Abilene, TX

Schedule: 6 days per week
Position Type: Full-Time | Field-Based
Industry: Commercial Construction / Roofing & Waterproofing

An established commercial construction contractor is looking for an experienced Senior Safety Specialist to support a major project in Abilene, Texas.

This is a hands-on, site-based safety position for someone who is comfortable being in the field, working directly with crews and project leadership, and taking ownership of day-to-day safety compliance.

This is not a short-term assignment tied only to the Abilene project. The company has an active pipeline of work and is looking for someone who can transition to additional projects as work progresses.

Compensation & Schedule

  • $45–$50/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

  • Overtime paid for hours worked beyond the standard workweek

  • 6-day workweek

  • Full-time opportunity with continued project work

  • Primarily field-based position

What You'll Be Doing

As the Senior Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining a strong safety presence on site and working closely with field leadership, employees, subcontractors and general contractor safety personnel.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting daily jobsite safety audits and inspections

  • Developing and maintaining site-specific safety plans

  • Leading safety meetings, toolbox talks and employee training

  • Monitoring OSHA compliance and preparing for inspections

  • Completing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and identifying potential risks

  • Responding to and documenting incidents

  • Working directly with GC safety teams to meet site-specific requirements

  • Coaching field employees and reinforcing safe work practices

  • Managing multiple safety priorities with limited supervision

  • Serving as a senior safety resource and setting the standard for safety performance in the field

What We're Looking For

Candidates should meet one of the following experience/education paths:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related safety field + at least 1 year of construction safety experience, OR

  • 5+ years of construction safety experience with a recognized safety certification if a bachelor's degree is not held

Additional requirements:

  • Fluent bilingual English/Spanish — must be able to read, write, communicate and conduct meetings/training in both languages

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices

  • Safety certification required for candidates without the applicable bachelor's degree

  • OSHA 500 certification strongly preferred

  • Valid driver's license

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments through completion with minimal direction

  • Proven ability to lead by example and build credibility with field teams

  • Authorized to work in the United States

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This position offers more than a single-project assignment. You'll be joining an established contractor with an ongoing pipeline of commercial construction projects and the opportunity to continue with the organization beyond the current Abilene project.

For an experienced construction safety professional who prefers being in the field rather than behind a desk, this is an opportunity to take ownership of site safety, work directly with crews and project leadership, and play an important role in maintaining a strong safety culture.

Interested? Apply confidentially to learn more about the company, project and long-term opportunity.
