Tell the Story of Science Beyond Earth
MORI Associates is seeking a senior science writer to bring NASA's Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) research to life for audiences around the world. In this role, you'll turn groundbreaking research — from how plants grow in microgravity to how the human body adapts to life beyond Earth — into stories that inform, inspire, and connect the public to NASA's mission.

You'll work at the intersection of science and storytelling, partnering directly with NASA scientists, communications leads, and multimedia teams to shape the narrative around some of the most fascinating research happening today. If you love making complex ideas accessible — and you thrive on deadline-driven, high-visibility writing — this is your opportunity to put your stamp on NASA's science.

What You'll Do
  • Craft compelling content — news articles, features, web copy, press releases, and backgrounders — that spotlights BPS research, mission milestones, and scientific discoveries.
  • Partner with experts — collaborate closely with scientists, communications leads, and multimedia teams to ensure every piece is accurate, on-message, and aligned with NASA and SMD priorities.
  • Sharpen the message — edit and review content for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to NASA style and AP guidelines.
  • Support real-time media needs — prepare talking points, rapid-turn statements, and briefing materials when the moment calls for a fast, polished response.
  • Build the bigger narrative — develop thematic storytelling that ties BPS research to NASA's broader mission and to what matters most to the public.
  • Measure what resonates — track engagement metrics and use feedback to continuously sharpen content effectiveness.

What You Bring
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in science writing, journalism, or communications.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging stories.
  • Strong collaboration skills — you're comfortable working across teams with scientists, communicators, and external partners.
Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of AP Style.
  • Experience with rapid response writing, marketing or public engagement campaigns, and executive communications.
  • Experience with webpage development.

Why This Role
This is a chance to give voice to research that pushes the boundaries of what we know about life and physical systems — in space and on Earth. Your writing won't just document science; it'll help the public see why it matters.
