About Melbourne: Our headquarters is located in Melbourne, Florida, a vibrant city on the Space Coast where high-tech innovation meets coastal living. Here, you'll work on dynamic, impactful projects while enjoying front-row views of rocket launches from our rooftop and quick access to some of Florida's most beautiful beaches. Just an hour from world-class attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios, Melbourne offers the perfect balance of career growth, family life, and fun, all in a warm subtropical climate with a relaxed, suburban feel.

Overview --------

We're looking for a Senior Semiconductor Process Piping Engineer to join our team in either our Melbourne, FL or Tempe, AZ office. Melbourne is located on Florida's Space Coast, home to NASA's Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, and offers beautiful beaches, quaint downtown shopping, dining and nightlife, and A-rated schools. Tempe is part of the Greater Phoenix metro area and offers a vibrant mix of dining, entertainment, outdoor recreation, and access to one of the nation's fastest-growing technology and semiconductor hubs.

BRPH is a technically focused, creative architecture, design, engineering, construction services, and mission solutions firm providing innovative solutions to mission-driven clients in the aerospace, defense, education, manufacturing, commercial, entertainment, and hospitality market sectors. Founded in 1964, BRPH is consistently ranked among the nation's top firms and has completed a wide range of projects across the United States and throughout the world.

As a Senior Semiconductor Process Piping Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of piping systems for semiconductor manufacturing and support facilities. This includes (but is not limited to) engineering, sizing, and specification of semiconductor process and utility distribution systems and components such as gas cabinets, valve manifold boxes and panels (VMBs and VMPs), valve panels at tools, automatic and manual changeovers, pressure control stations, regulators, mass flow controllers, control valves, filters and purifiers, vacuum distribution interfaces, pumps, heat exchangers, vaporizers, dryers, separators, knockout tanks, accumulators, surge bottles, pressure relief devices, purge and vent systems, abatement interfaces, distribution headers and manifolds, and tie-ins to vendor skids. It also includes selecting instrumentation and controls such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level instruments, transmitters and switches, gauges, analyzers, leak detection, valve positioners, alarms, and shutdown and interlock devices, and documenting these selections on PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and drawings.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to translate Owner requirements into design reality and communicate the design through engineering drawings and specifications while following all pertinent codes, client standards, and regulations. Critical thinking and analytical skills are a must. Teamwork and coordination with other disciplines is essential to a complete design. This position also values candidates who have experience building and maintaining client relationships, leading technical discussions, supporting pursuits, and serving as a trusted interface with owners and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Execution -----------------------------

  • Take semiconductor process mechanical and piping projects from inception to closeout with minimal oversight, including understanding and or developing the project scope, fee, and schedule.
  • Provide project management and project engineering leadership and coordinate technical execution across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represent the company to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Monitor project budgets and maintain overall responsibility for profitability, schedules, timely completion, and quality of assigned projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serve as a primary technical point of contact, and support business development activities.
  • Assist the National Practice Leader with forecasting workload and resources for assigned projects and or department.
  • Develop engineering proposals and agreements in conjunction with the National Practice Leader.

Engineering Design and Technical Delivery --------------------------------------

  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices across broad assignments and related fields.
  • Lead the design of semiconductor process and utility piping systems, including high purity gases, bulk specialty gases, ultrapure water, process cooling water and chilled water, vacuum, compressed dry air, chemical distribution, waste and drain, and abatement interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain design deliverables including basis of design, equipment lists, line lists, PFDs, P&IDs, system narratives, and project specifications.
  • Perform engineering calculations and sizing to support design, including pressure drop, flow capacity, utility demand, and component sizing for regulators, control valves, mass flow controllers, filters, heat exchangers, pumps, and relief devices.
  • Select and specify equipment and components such as gas cabinets, VMBs and VMPs, valve panels at tools, changeovers, pressure control stations, filters and purifiers, pump and chemical delivery skids, vent and purge components, abatement interfaces, relief devices, and associated instrumentation and controls.

Codes, Standards, and Constructability --------------------------------------

  • Work with and apply relevant codes, standards, and client requirements applicable to semiconductor facilities, which may include NFPA 55, ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC Section VIII, API 520 and API 521 as applicable, and SEMI standards such as SEMI E49 and SEMI F19.
  • Coordinate with and help resolve conflicts with other disciplines based on an excellent understanding of the design process.
  • Be responsible for preparation of project construction specifications and review of shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.

Construction Administration -------------------------

  • Visit construction sites to review, monitor, and report progress.
  • Perform construction administration duties such as shop drawing review, attending construction site meetings, answering RFIs, preparing supplemental instructions and proposal requests, writing status reports, etc.
  • Mentorship and Team Leadership
  • Manage the productivity of junior engineers and designers assigned.
