ABOUT THE ROLE

A growing public biotechnology company is seeking a Senior Manager of SG&A Accounting to lead the accounting and financial close process for corporate operating expenses. This role serves as a strategic finance partner to more than 40 business units, overseeing general ledger activities, contract accounting, account reconciliations, and process improvements while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP. The position also provides leadership to accounting staff and plays a key role in supporting SEC reporting, audits, and the continued scalability of the finance organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process for SG&A accounting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and close support.
  • Serve as the primary accounting partner for over 40 business departments.
  • Review and determine appropriate accounting treatment for consulting agreements, SaaS contracts, professional services, marketing agreements, grants, sponsorships, and other operating expenses.
  • Evaluate expense recognition, prepaid assets, accruals, and capitalization in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review invoices and ensure expenses are accurately recorded.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and internal controls.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing coaching and professional development.
  • Partner with business leaders to provide accounting guidance and support operational decision-making.
  • Assist with quarterly reviews, year-end audits, and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Drive accounting systems and process enhancement projects to support company growth.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including accounting management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, month-end close, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience reviewing contracts and determining appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead process improvement initiatives and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and business partnering skills.
  • Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • CPA and Big 4 public accounting experience are strong pluses.
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
