The Senior SharePoint Architect/Developer drives the architecture, design, development, governance, administration, and continuous improvement of ERCOT’s enterprise collaboration and business productivity platforms, with primary focus on SharePoint Online, Project Server / Project Online, Microsoft Power Platform, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and related Microsoft 365 services. This role designs secure, scalable, supportable, and compliant collaboration solutions that meet business, operational, and regulatory requirements. The position partners with business stakeholders, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Identity, Compliance, Records Management, and other technology teams to deliver modern collaboration capabilities within ERCOT’s regulated energy environment. The Senior SharePoint Architect/Developer is expected to independently manage complex architecture and development efforts, provide senior-level technical guidance, serve as an escalation point for complex collaboration platform issues, and help mature standards, frameworks, governance models, lifecycle practices, and operational support processes. This role also supports the advancement of Power Platform governance, development of Power Apps and Power Automate solutions for business-critical processes, and the expansion of SharePoint Framework custom web part development using formal SDLC practices. As ERCOT evaluates emerging AI-enabled productivity platforms, this role may also assist with administration, governance, proof-of-concept development, or AI-related application support. Job Duties SharePoint Online and Project Platform Architecture Drive architecture, design, configuration, administration, and continuous improvement of SharePoint Online and Project Server / Project Online solutions. Design secure and scalable site architectures, information architectures, hub sites, metadata models, content types, document libraries, lists, permissions models, search experiences, project sites, templates, workflows, and reporting structures. Partner with business teams to gather requirements, assess business processes, and deliver collaboration and project management solutions aligned with enterprise standards. Modernize legacy SharePoint sites, workflows, InfoPath forms, SharePoint Designer customizations, file shares, and unsupported solutions into modern Microsoft 365 capabilities. Maintain platform architecture standards, design documentation, implementation patterns, support models, and operational guardrails. Troubleshoot advanced SharePoint and Project platform issues related to permissions, access, workflows, forms, search, lists, libraries, web parts, customizations, and integrations. Power Platform Governance and Development Own and mature governance for the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Dataverse, connectors, environments, data policies, security, lifecycle practices, and support models. Define and maintain Power Platform frameworks, standards, best practices, naming conventions, environment strategies, DLP policies, connector policies, deployment patterns, and operational guardrails. Design, develop, enhance, and support Power Apps and Power Automate solutions that support mainstream, business-critical, or operationally significant business processes. Establish lifecycle management practices for Power Platform solutions, including intake, requirements, design review, development, testing, deployment, documentation, monitoring, support, ownership review, and retirement. Partner with business users, citizen developers, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Data Governance, and technology teams to promote responsible Power Platform adoption. SharePoint Framework Custom Development Own the design, development, deployment, governance, and support of SharePoint Framework custom web parts, extensions, and related SharePoint Online customizations. Establish and mature SDLC practices for SPFx development, including requirements, solution design, development standards, source control, peer review, testing, packaging, deployment, documentation, release management, and support. Develop custom SharePoint components using modern technologies such as SPFx, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Microsoft Graph, REST APIs, Visual Studio Code, Git, and Azure DevOps or comparable tooling. Ensure custom solutions preserve SharePoint Online governance, security, compliance, performance, accessibility, and long-term maintainability. Microsoft 365 Collaboration Administration and Governance Administer and support Microsoft 365 collaboration services, including SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Power Platform, Microsoft Whiteboard, and related services. Configure and support Teams policies, SharePoint sharing settings, OneDrive policies, external sharing controls, guest access, collaboration governance, retention settings, and service configurations. Serve as a senior escalation point for complex collaboration platform incidents, perform root-cause analysis, coordinate remediation, and drive corrective actions. Monitor Microsoft 365 roadmap and Message Center changes, assess business impact, and coordinate change planning, testing, documentation, and stakeholder communications. Support Microsoft 365 usage, adoption, performance, compliance, service health, and governance reporting. Support vendor health assessments, support cases, maintenance notifications, and platform service reviews. Security, Compliance, Automation, and Integration Design and maintain secure collaboration environments through proper permissions management, sharing controls, monitoring, auditing, classification, retention, and governance practices. Coordinate with Cybersecurity and Compliance on data protection, Purview policies, DLP configurations, external sharing, audit requests, evidence collection, and control validation. Support secure Microsoft 365 configurations, including environments aligned with FedRAMP or similar compliance expectations. Use PowerShell and other automation tools to administer, configure, monitor, report on, and maintain Microsoft 365 collaboration services. Develop scripts and automation to improve provisioning, permissions management, auditing, reporting, migration, documentation, and operational efficiency. Integrate SharePoint Online, Power Platform, Project Server / Project Online, Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft Graph, Azure services, APIs, and third-party tools where appropriate. Emerging AI Platform Support Support evaluation, administration, configuration, governance, or proof-of-concept development related to emerging enterprise AI and productivity platforms. Assist with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI governance, user adoption, or AI-enabled productivity initiatives as organizational needs mature. Partner with Cybersecurity, Compliance, Data Governance, and business stakeholders to ensure AI-related solutions are evaluated with appropriate attention to data protection, security, compliance, and operational support. Documentation, Training, and Technical Guidance Create and maintain design documentation, technical standards, operational guardrails, migration approaches, service improvement plans, knowledge articles, runbooks, and support documentation. Provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and task guidance to teammates, support teams, business users, and operational partners. Assist with training technical and non-technical staff on new collaboration tools, governance practices, custom solutions, and platform capabilities. Coordinate related technical work without direct supervisory responsibility. Support organizational change management and help champion effective adoption of Microsoft 365 services aligned with ERCOT business objectives. Required Experience Five years of progressively responsible experience in collaboration platform administration, architecture, development, or related Microsoft 365 technology roles. Senior-level experience with SharePoint Online architecture, administration, development, deployment, migration, governance, and support. Experience with Project Server and/or Project Online architecture, configuration, administration, support, or integration. Experience designing SharePoint site architecture, information architecture, permissions models, metadata structures, document management solutions, search experiences, lists, libraries, workflows, and customizations. Experience developing modern SharePoint Online solutions using SharePoint Framework, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Microsoft Graph, REST APIs, or related technologies. Experience establishing or working within formal SDLC practices for custom Microsoft 365 or SharePoint development. Experience developing and supporting Power Apps and Power Automate solutions used for business process automation. Experience with Power Platform governance, including environment strategy, connector policies, DLP policies, security roles, lifecycle management, deployment practices, ownership models, and support processes. Experience deploying, administering, or supporting Microsoft Teams and OneDrive in an enterprise environment. Experience administering Microsoft 365 / Office 365 environments with more than 1,000 users. Strong practical experience with PowerShell for Microsoft 365 administration, automation, reporting, and troubleshooting. Experience with Microsoft 365 migration tools and migration of large volumes of data into cloud collaboration platforms. Experience working in secure, regulated, high-availability, or compliance-driven technology environments. The ERCOT Engineer Development Program (EDP) is a 12- to 16-month, self-paced program geared toward entry-level engineers looking to start a career in the power industry. Through the program, an EDP Engineer receives one-on-one mentoring, specialized training, and exposure to the work performed by each of the engineering groups at ERCOT. The program allows engineers to develop the fundamental skills necessary to reach their full potential while gaining an understanding of the types of engineering work ERCOT has to offer. EDP management supports participants each step of the way as they progress through the program. Upon completion, graduates are placed as full-time engineers within one of ERCOT’s engineering groups. The GMS Development Program (GDP) is designed to provide entry-level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to become successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program, which is based in ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) Department, will provide experience in day-to-day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management. The GDP offers one-on-one mentoring, training, field trips, and special assignments. These assignments allow GDP engineers to become knowledgeable and familiar with the various business areas at ERCOT. The GMS leadership team prepares GDP engineers for a future career at ERCOT in power systems and computer engineering. The System Operator Development Program (ODP) is intended to combine real-time daily operations in an exciting work setting to prepare participants with the vital skills necessary to be successful in such a critical position — providing 24x7x365 on-demand support to manage the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers. If you are new to the industry, this program introduces you to the Bulk Electric System by combining introductory courses with the NERC Certification Exam Preparation Program in preparation to pass the NERC Certification Exam.
