Senior Site Safety & Health Specialist

Location: Kansas City, MO
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Travel: Extensive travel throughout the United States required

Our client is seeking experienced Senior Site Safety & Health Specialists for contract-to-hire opportunities supporting large-scale heavy construction projects throughout the United States. Multiple positions are expected to be filled over the next several months, including two immediate openings supporting projects scheduled to begin in mid-August.

Initial project assignments include:

  • Hangar Construction Project Palmdale, CA
  • Data Center Construction Project Sweetwater, TX

The ideal candidate will provide strong field leadership and have the ability to effectively manage site safety and health programs in complex, heavy construction environments. Candidates must be willing to travel extensively and work various schedules based on project requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement project-specific Safety & Health policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide professional Safety & Health leadership and guidance to the project management team in a heavy construction environment.
  • Administer Safety & Health programs on field construction projects to verify that operations are executed as planned and conducted in a safe manner.
  • Manage project Safety & Health program deliverables while responding to site-specific safety and health compliance questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Manage and support Safety & Health programs designed to achieve and maintain a goal of zero safety incidents.
  • Conduct regular health and safety performance reviews, assessments, and documentation to verify compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and resolve conditions resulting in a work stoppage when circumstances could create an immediate danger to life or health on a project.
  • Report and present work stoppage issues to the project management team and collaborate on practices to prevent future occurrences.
  • Consult with site personnel regarding Safety & Health issues and recommend best practices.
  • Assess Safety & Health issues and opportunities before work begins and implement corrective action based on applicable policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Coordinate directly with client Safety & Health representatives regarding site safety issues, preventative measures, and compliance requirements.
  • Build effective working relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety representatives to ensure proper compliance is maintained.
  • Manage project Safety & Health walk-through assessments and review findings with appropriate personnel.
  • Document assessment findings requiring immediate correction and ensure corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare safety-related memos and assist site management with communications designed to heighten safety awareness and reinforce project safety and health goals.
  • Lead, conduct, validate, and document Safety & Health training applicable to the work being performed.
  • Review near-miss, property damage, environmental incident, and accident investigation reports.
  • Recommend appropriate countermeasures and corrective actions.
  • Recommend solutions to Corporate Safety & Health leadership regarding project program challenges, objectives, and progress.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with project management, site personnel, subcontractors, clients, and corporate Safety & Health leadership.
  • Complete daily field Safety & Health reports and maintain all required safety records in an audit-ready condition.
  • Submit required documentation and reports in accordance with established procedures.
  • Travel and drive to various project site locations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and 7 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management; or
  • Associate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and 9 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management; or
  • High school diploma/GED and 11 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experienced knowledge of OSHA Construction and General Industry regulations.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI, NIOSH, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requirements, Engineers Manual 385-1, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course certification required; OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other standard computer software.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must meet and maintain the requirements for company vehicle driving privileges.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively throughout the United States.
  • Must be willing to work various schedules at project site locations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project management teams, clients, subcontractors, and field personnel.
