Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Software for Workcell Automation and Test (SWAT) team. We are a software team dedicated to building the automation frameworks and infrastructure that enable scalable, reliable hardware testing of next-generation robotic systems. As a Senior SDE on this team, you will own the technical strategy and architecture for test automation platforms, drive build-vs-buy selections, and define the technical roadmap for the team. You will navigate ambiguous problem spaces, translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, and deliver large cross-cutting projects with minimal guidance. You will drive technical alignment with hardware development, regulatory & compliance, program management, and test engineering stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings deep software development expertise, strong architectural judgment, and a track record of delivering complex, ambiguous projects end-to-end. You are comfortable defining technical approaches where none exist, driving clarity for your team, and influencing engineering practices beyond your immediate scope. You should be effective at prioritizing across multiple workstreams, proactive in identifying risks and dependencies, and passionate about raising the engineering bar for the entire team.

Key job responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Define the technical roadmap for test automation software, identify strategic opportunities, and architect solutions that reduce test overhead and improve efficiency at scale.
  • Own the design and architecture of platforms and APIs that enable test engineers to create, configure, and maintain automated test workflows through a self-service model-driving adoption across the organization.
  • Drive technical alignment across multiple teams, proactively identify dependencies, and resolve cross-team blockers to ensure software systems and hardware interfaces deliver business value.
  • Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, technical standards, and mentoring SDEs across the team. You will make key technical selections, establish architectural patterns, and ensure the team delivers high-quality, maintainable software.
  • Define and drive engineering best practices, influence architecture selections beyond your immediate team, and develop multi-year strategies for expanding automation coverage across the organization.

A day in the life

On a typical day, you will work with engineers and stakeholders to frame ambiguous problems, define technical approaches, and drive execution on automation initiatives across the team. You will:

  • Be the go-to technical leader for automated test infrastructure, driving architectural decisions and mentoring engineers on complex design problems.
  • Own the technical vision for system evolution, define metrics and monitoring strategies to ensure reliability at scale, and drive operational excellence across the team"s services.
  • Deliver high-impact software solutions that directly contribute to Amazon Robotics' growth, influencing the direction of test automation across the organization. Your success will be both measurable and visible.

We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
