Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on embedded systems, operating systems, or system architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with Android or Linux internals, including kernel, drivers, and system services.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in C/C++ programming.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with wireless mesh networking protocols, like Thread/OpenThread.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key member of the Google Thread Border Router team, focusing on design and development of the device-side Connectivity stack and Software Development Kit (SDK). You will leverage your experience in embedded systems, operating systems, and connectivity stacks for Wi-Fi, Thread, etc., to contribute heavily towards the design and development of the SDK and other solutions. You will work closely with various software and hardware teams towards a successful and scalable implementation of the SDK.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Google thread border router devices, their connectivity stack and SDK for products including smart displays, speakers, TV streaming devices, Wi-Fi routers and Broadband Gateways.
  • Lead design and development of network connectivity software solutions for embedded systems running on Linux and Android, with a focus on system scalability, performance, and power efficiency.
  • Profile/debug complex system-level issues related to performance, power, and stability in Android/Linux environments.
  • Leverage and apply Gen-AI productivity tools for development and debug.
  • Collaborate with first-party hardware, first-party/third-party device software teams.
