Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Software Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of enterprise applications for a mission-critical
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) federal healthcare program. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with architects, developers, business analysts, QA, DevSecOps, and other stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications and microservices.
- Develop scalable and maintainable applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
- Design and implement REST APIs and service-to-service integrations using technologies such as Spring Cloud/OpenFeign.
- Develop data access and persistence components using JPA/Hibernate and relational databases.
- Write efficient SQL queries and support integration with enterprise databases such as Teradata.
- Develop unit and integration tests and support automated testing using JUnit and related frameworks.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, performance, and production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Participate in code reviews and follow established coding, security, quality, and development standards.
- Collaborate with architects and other developers on technical design, application enhancements, and modernization initiatives.
- Work with QA teams to resolve defects and support functional, integration, and regression testing.
- Support cloud-native application development and deployments using AWS and Docker.
- Develop and maintain API documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI where applicable.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical discussions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of application performance, reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 17 or later.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and microservices.
- Experience developing and integrating REST APIs.
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate and relational databases.
- Strong SQL development skills.
- Experience with JUnit or comparable testing frameworks.
- Experience with Maven and Git.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting federal government or healthcare technology programs.
- Experience working with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, or Program Integrity environments.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and Docker/containerized applications.
- Experience with Teradata.
- Experience with Spring Cloud/OpenFeign.
- Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Experience with SonarQube and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with distributed caching technologies such as Hazelcast.
- Experience with enterprise content and workflow platforms such as IBM FileNet is a plus.

This position will work as part of a multidisciplinary technology team supporting the development and modernization of enterprise applications within the
CMS federal healthcare environment. The role will collaborate closely with architecture, development, QA, DevSecOps, business analysis, product, and program teams.

Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
