Description & Requirements

The Team

The Risk & Performance Platform (RPP) group builds systems that help the world’s largest investors—asset managers, pension funds, and central banks—understand risk, evaluate performance, and make better financial decisions.

Our platform powers critical workflows across Bloomberg’s enterprise systems for traders, portfolio managers, and risk officers, combining high-quality data with advanced analytics and customization to give clients a clear view of their portfolios in both normal and stressed market conditions.

RPP sits at the intersection of financial engineering and large-scale systems. If you’re interested in solving challenging technical problems while building products that have real impact on global markets, this is a great place to grow your career.

We’re a global team of ~250 engineers across New York, London, and Lugano, working together to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions used by thousands of professionals every day.

What’s in it for you

As a Senior Software Engineer on RPP, you’ll work on systems that operate at real scale—processing large volumes of data and powering analytics that directly influence investment decisions.

You’ll:

+ Design and build distributed systems that handle complex financial calculations

+ Work across the full software lifecycle, from ideation to production

+ Collaborate closely with product managers and domain experts to solve real-world problems

+ Grow your understanding of financial markets and risk, with support from the team

+ Be part of the close-knit RPP community—work alongside brilliant engineers and contribute to a thriving culture of technical excellence.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a collaborative environment that values strong engineering practices, clean design, and continuous improvement.

We’ll trust you to

+ Design and develop scalable, reliable software for analytics and data processing

+ Work across the stack—from backend services to client-facing applications

+ Take ownership of features and contribute throughout the full development lifecycle

+ Collaborate with engineers and product partners to deliver high-quality solutions

+ Continuously improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability

You’ll need to have

+ 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

+ Experience with one or more programming languages such as C++, Python, Java, or similar

+ Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design

+ Experience building or working with scalable or distributed systems

+ A focus on code quality, testing, and maintainability

+ Strong communication and collaboration skills

We’d love to see

+ Experience or interest in performance-critical or data-intensive systems

+ Familiarity with distributed systems, messaging systems, or large-scale data processing

+ Interest in financial markets, risk, or analytics (no prior domain experience required)

+ Experience working across teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

The Technology

Our systems process large datasets and power complex analytics across distributed services. We use a range of technologies including modern C++, Python, and TypeScript, along with open-source tools and distributed systems frameworks.
